Jobs in Thailand for expats
 

Just curious if anyone knows any information regarding employment in Thailand for expats?

Not looking at jets due to my low time (1300 hrs) but possibly turbo prop or twin pistion?

Any help with information or phone numbers would be great!

If a young/fresh Thai pilot with 1300hrs was looking for information regarding a pilot job in Europe, what would be your answer?
Why Thailand?
That's just a general thought about all those wannabees wanting to fly in exotic places and forgetting about the locals already there with lot more experience.
Your passport won't buy you a job, quite the opposite....

Asian countries hire xpats only when they cannot meet demands locally.
In India the jobs are open only to Sr. Capts with 1000hrs PIC on type.
As for Thailand or Malayasia its the same even if they do hire FOs it will be type rated with min 5000 TT.

So pls don not treat asian airlines as a low hr pilot heaven !

Not too sure if they take expats but I guess there is no harm in trying! Maybe a follow up in Bangkok would help?

An expat working in Thailand or Malaysia or any Asian country may not necessarily be European!! What about a Malaysian working in Thailand or Singapore for example. I think you will find "expats" in many Asian countries who come from neighboring Asian countries. Seems to be an assumption that expats in Asia come from Europe, America or Australia. I notice that confirm-finals gave his location as Malaysia so he/she may even be Malaysian and have no interest in flying in Europe!

Bangkok Airways are looking for "Qualified Pilots" with commercial certificate and they're also looking for Captains(Nationals Only); I just can't figure out the difference between qualified pilots and Captains. :confused:

BTW, I'll take the opportunity to answer this question "why Thailand?" hmmmmmm, everything is so cheap in Thailand, I mean everything.:ok:

CatpK you are correct. Most Asia countries have expats that are from other Asian countries. I personally know many ex-MAS pilots working in the middle east also..

The reason I'm interested in Thailand is because it's such an amazing country and the people are so friendly! Far cry from Malaysia...

It's true I made the wrong assumption that you "confirm final" were from Europe.
And it bothers me because I met too many of those Germans, French, Brits, always thinking that their JAA-God licence and their white status would be the passport to get a job anywhere without even thinking about the Thai pilots already here.
I know thailand for having stay there for 4 months in 98, I may even be the only white farang who has ever performed a ram muay in Udon Thani before being trashed by a local.
I thought I could land a job with my 3000TT at this time but forget about it. Without some jet experience which is pretty well looked after everywhere in Asia , what can you bring to a company that the locals don't have?
Medwin, yes I agree, "everything" is very cheap in Thailand and that makes me sad most of the time.

Off topic but where? I live within this area and pay far more than this. The maid alone gets almost what you quote.

House is in a private soi, Flat roofed so aircon bil was high, up to 6KB/month.

You need to network with other farangs, the best digs are never advertised.:ok:

Also, get friendly with security guards, they know everything that's going on in the area.

P.S. My mistake, rent 6000, maid 4000. per month....Solly.:E

You can also get ripped off if you stay at places like the overpriced AMARI Airport Hotel at BKK; USD 250/night. :{

Bangkok Airways accept expat pilots but only if you're qualified with types.At the moment they're training their own cadets and also advertising for qualified pilots who are Thai citizens.No matter an FO or Captain position, you have to have jet hours experience. How many (thousand)hours,I really can't remember.

Same goes with Nok air and PB. However,they may have other positions available like instructors but only if you can get a chance to talk to the flight deck admins and then they might bring that up to the meeting.To be honest,Thailand today is not the same as Thailand 50 years ago.If they hired expats to do flying that was because they didn't quite have enough experience in that field, an easy example is Thai airways.After SAS put their hands in to train them as partner,TG learned all they could from them and the regulation that TG pilots will only be Thai citizens was introduced.Why? I guess the answer is very clear.


Although they always in need for pilots, but it would be nicer to hire their own people,even to borrow from the air force sometimes to save the cost and to fill unemployed pilot positions in Thailand. Not that I'm saying you won't have chances.However,I like to point out that both TG and PG are always full with new pilot cadets every year. PB and OX might be a little different but OX (Orient Thai)are unpredictable.They're most busy at Chinese New Year period and then not as busy... Nok Air...I think they're already hiring and borrowing TG pilots(because they're actually TG's) PB...I have no idea how they think.
