Life in Malaysia Airlines

I have just applied to Malaysia Airlines to be based out there on expat terms. Having browsed the threads here I have not gained alot of insight into what life is like for those currently employed in Malaysia. I have applied for the 737 fleet, having 3200 total hours and 1700 on type. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards to you all.

Unfortunately, you are coming in when the local natives are restless with current issues.So don't expect the red carpet when you arrive there. :}

Expect to be worked very hard as the rosters are mostly on day to day basis on the 737's.Don't expect any upgrades as that's another sore issue for the locals...... :ooh:

Other than that, you will enjoy the weather...it justs rains or sunshine with some haze choking days in between, the food & the people .... ;)

Oh yes, before I forget, when MAS gets their so called 200 cadets into the system......you will be dropped like a hot potato....history has proven it before..... :uhoh:

Expats Be Warned.
You won't have a long career progression in MAS. They need pilots to fill the gap at the moment before the locals take over again. Its only natural as they will always drive to Nationalisation. It's only because the management can't manage that they now need to recruit expats as many of their pilots are moving on. Serves the company right in my opinion.

However, it's good flying experience. Good standards, good aircraft and it's a full service airline. Go for it and use them as much as they will use you. Good terms especially with the expat allowances and stay out of the politics. As long as you know where you stand and where you are heading to.

Good Luck.

Good info Guys.I've just applied myself for Malaysian on the 737 and am trying to find out what the ex- pat pay deal is as I would be carting the whole family out.
The 3 year contract does sound like we'd all get the boot at some stage.
