Expats in MAS
 

I heard rumours about MAS looking for expats pilots.

I understand this is a very sensitive subject for present MAS pilots. What are the thoughts out there among you guys?

I believe I have heard expats on the radio with MAS Kargo.

Thats what I dont get it , Why is that? If they are exp pilots , so what? Do you have a 747 Type rating? I bet you don´t and will not get it for a long time...Stop the crap and limite yourself to fly whatever you fly...

The Airlines hire whoever is qualified for the job...Should blame them not the pilots.......Or get typed and then claim your position as a citizen....

There is always the seniority issue. Nobody wants to be bypassed for promotion etc.

I fully understand companies that prefer to employ nationals for national airlines, although employing expats on a time-limited basis to ensure expansion etc might make sense without causing discontentment among the national pilots.

It is important that the expats are not working against the interests of the local pilots who might be experiencing poor industrial relations with management for whatever reason.

Will there be enough expansion to motivate MAS employing expats in the future? If so what are the views among MAS pilots?

last news, MAS are going to get 20 F/O for B744 from GA as result the what they call "joint operation" , while GA have a surplus of F/O on their B744 and MAS need F/O to operate their B744, I wonder what going to happen to MAS B737 fleet are they working the smilar way as with B744 with GA?? or direct entry Capt.

We are sure that GA B737 fleet will colapse if, no "joint operation" deal are made, a lot of type rated B737 drivers will be available to be working with MAS:ok:

Many Pilots from GA give their full attention to 737's & 330's avaiable space that MAS have right now. :E

I should think the locals would be relieved having anxiety, pain and distress removed by the arrivals of expats.

Most of the time the expats are brought in because of rapid expansion, but this is the 1st time expats are brought in due to loss of manpower.

The locals have been worked hard and are reaching their limits so I think they would not mind the arrival of fellow pilots to give them some time off.

It will be unfair to take in expat FO's for their 747 fleet as there are perfectly good senior FO's on their 737 fleet waiting for their turn.

What they need is expat FO's on the 737 to take the burden of having all their annual leave rejected for the past 1 1/2 years plus working at max hours a month.

Let me sound a word of caution to those expats going to MAS. Expect alot of lies and mischievious undertakings to be given to you, if you deal directly with the management there. If you are going in via an employment agency, I would suggest that you would be better off, ie PARC, IAC, RISHWORTHS, and the like. In this way, expect to get paid more and expect some kind of rotational package to get you home on a regular basis but tell them to stick it up their jumpers if they offer you subload EY class (THEY WILL!). They love doing this to expats. If you enter on a local contract, you will be shafted, believe me!

If you think you can build a rapal with these individuals, dont kid yourself, you can't! You can extend your self in training, meeting attendance, and other company projects, but still expect the indignity of being treated as a third class citizen. Yes, there are two classes above you. You will see it in the DCA, and Immigration, and you will see it within MAS - Policies are written and unwritten, expect the unwritten to apply to you as an expat.

There are far better jobs to go. Try and find them if you can, but if you have to go to MAS, treat it as very temporary step in your career in aviation - they will.

First you would have to ask yourself why is MAS losing so many pilot/engineers ?
Why is MAS carrying so many defects in there MR2 ( maintenance deferred/defects log ) ?
Why is moral so low ?
