Once again: Schools in malaysia!

Hello everyone,
Sorry for not responding to my old thread here:
http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...hreadid=149774

Had some... work issues. Hopefully they ARE sorted out. In any case, I still want to get my PPL.

After checking in and around the web I've found 3 schools in Senai Airport; Elite, Johor and Fras flying clubs. (Confusing, similar addresses?!)

At the moment Elite is appealing - on account of it's pricing structure on its website. One wonders if its updated.

Would like to hear your individual experiences on which school would be good to take a PPL at. I am hoping it'll be a club where I can hire out 4 seaters to bring my friends around for short trips.

Also, if I get a PPL here, will it be valid to be used to take on a CPL course with MFA? Or any other schools offering a CPL? Perhaps even in Canada or Seattle, USA?

Please note that I'm not too highly keen on getting an airline job - the CPL is more of a long term challenge. Plus, I'm expecting to be able to afford the CPL fees say... another 10 years or so down the road :-)

Thanks in advance! BTW, I've created a flying forum in my own website @ forums.wired-wolf.com, it's empty right now, only expect to put stuff in it after I get into the air and come back with some pictures. You guys are free to come in and hang out there!

Regards,
GW

Any ICAO PPL is valid for joining the frozen ATPL + CPL /IR course.
Concerning LATC, for the moment we are fully booked by MAS (10 intakes of cadets next year).

Thanks mate! Unfortunately, I'm only interested in doing this kinda on a part-time basis, maybe 6-8 hours a month.

Hey GW,

If you have a valid PPL, you'll get a 50 hours grace from your CPL course. If you're not a Malaysian and since LATC is full at the moment, I advice that you do your CPL back in your country or elsewhere and don't even think about MFA. MFA has 250+ students now and still taking. You wouldn't want to burn a hole in your pocket doing nothing.

About flying clubs, I don't think I am entitled to give my 5 cents thought but all I can say is that their all almost the same. Just go for the ones that saves you $$$. Don't forget to see what kind of aircraft you are trained on. Sometimes the course is cheap because you fly microlights or ultralights which these hours are not really recognised. But, still try to get those with the cheaper $$$ offer. Save some cash, and you could buy me a round of beer! :}

Wish you all the best!

Supposing a non-Malaysian citizen chose to go for a PPL in Malaysia? Does anyone know how one would go about getting a visa to stay in Malaysia for the duration of the course? Do the schools sort this out for you? I remember needing a student visa when I was at boarding school in Penang, perhaps its a similar setup?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry dtur2424,

I don't know much with the home ministry. Maybe you could make a call to the Malaysian Department of Civil Aviation and mostlikely they'll give you some information of such. Afterall, the people working there are friendly :O

A PPL in Malaysia shudn"t be any problems, . . . . just imagine myself trying to get an ATPL in Long Beach CA, and applying for a student visa at the American Embassy on September 12th, 2001 !!! and spending money given by an Arab!!!

Holy Smaking ****, . . . . you shud have seen the guy's face when heintervied me, . . . . . i never went back to collect the money until today, . . . . got my MY ATPL instead and now a captain. PHEW !!!
