A320 Type Training decision

I am away from flying for many years and I am thinking about doing type training for A320.
After completing A320 training, I will search airline job in Asia or other region.
I have just over 1100hrs total without any jet experience.
Many companies require 500hrs on A320 aircraft that is my biggest concern.
Do you think that A320 Rating will help me to find airline job in Asian region?

Line training usually follows the A320 type rating course and without it, the type rating is pretty much useless to anyone. It's in the line training where you really learn how to operate the type. This is the reason why most airlines require not just being type rated, but having 500 hours on type as well before they will consider you.

Well - A A320 rating isn't going to get you much in terms of job. Like WSSS stated, line training is the real deal.

If there's any economical p2f program that can accommodate you for at least 500 hours after your simulator (since your total time is above 1000 hours), that should be your aim. Maybe then you might be able to kick start your career.

Thank you for your reply.

I know there are many schools or companies offering 500 hrs line training program but that is very expensive thing to do

Just for type rating is not expensive but if I need 500hrs, I need to save more money....

i noticed you you already A320 rated. Did you look for job in South East Asia or other region?

I have one more question to ask.
Nowadays 500hrs on type is required to land on A320 job.
Does it mean all people who get hired by airlines pay for A320 line training?

I also want to hear the story of people who get hired just by obtaining A320 type rating in Asia???

Nowadays most FOs are paying for the line training. Some even are paying for MORE than the 500 hours on type, and even after that some even pay for the upgrade. Don't ask me why.

The only cadets who are getting hired without time on type or even without the TR are those going to national carriers, or those who were very lucky and knocked on the right door at the right time (airline starting operations, need 4 cadets ready on the spot, that sort of thing). In the West it is possible now to get a job without a TR (at least it was last year from what I heard) but the salaries are abismally low.

Search for opportunities for sponsored positions in your own country or take the path of starting in general aviation and building your career from the bottom up (like it should be!!).

Some cadets I know sold their family real state and put 300k USD on a line training. Then we all wonder how such things like the credit crunch and the ponzi schemes are still going on in the 21st century.

I appreciated your comment.

i see...now I understand type rating without line training is not right thing to start...

I am aways from flying for many years and struggling to find a job so I may have to consider type with line training also but it need money to start so I will work few more years to save enough fund to start training.

life is very tough.

well.. as you recommended, I should look for airline job in my country but airlines in my country only hire freshman just graduated from prestigious universities as a cadet so I have no chance to join airline in my country. In my country pilot consider as elite job so pilot job is opened for only certain people. That is problem for me...

I will keep working for not flying job and save money few more years then.

Please give me advise how to transit from A320 job, since airlines require us to have 500hrs on type.

May be one need to consider line training also?

Check the Air Astana thread on this same forum. Apparently they have dropped the requirements for NTR FO to only 500 hours on multicrew.

A320without hours on type

I went down a similar route, i paid for a A320 rating at the time it looked like good chance of a job with training provider but ended up out the other side with rating and no offers.Rating expired and on the back of my licence now.I believe I have more chance applying as non rated. Currently working on ATR (bonded) and up for updrade but applying for non rated A320 positions. 2500tt 500over 20tonne and 1500 multi crew.Age is also issue I believe 45+
had no reply from likes of Cebu/Wizz ,Astana and the likes.Tried Air Asia,HK express and jet2 all said thanks no thanks within few days.Save your money and take any flying position you can get.

However you have a job flying ATR.
Unlike my miserable life, you should be happy about having ATR job.

By the way, does anyone know something about below listed company? Scam for providing A320 and line training??
・JETAIR 77 Aviation Training Centre
・Desert Rose Aviation
・Aerorganizer Aviation Service International←They response quickly and ask me to pay 8000USD for securing seat. Total cost of A320 Rating and Line Training is just over 100000USD.

Same position

I am also in the same position I am thinking of changing my ICAO CPL IR to EASA so I can look for opportunities in Europe.

Would anyone else recommend this route, rather than going full force with an A320 type rating?

I think A320 Type rating course is more common in Europe than other countries. Under the circumstances you will find a number of schools providing type rating course for EASA holder. However, the issue is money.....
EASA is very expensive including conversion process.

Not sure but if you are not EU passport holder, finding job would be difficult task to accomplish...that is my thought

What country issued your certificates?

BTW, "changing" to an EASA certificate is a very long and expensive process. And if you don't have a right to work in Europe, it won't do you any good.

hey thanks for your response. Do you know where I can find info on the cost of converting to EASA?
Do you have any locations you can recommend?

I have an EU passport.

Type ratings are relatively cheap in the UK at the moment because of a surplus of simulator time, summer is always quieter for the providers. Shop around for some good deals on A320 and B737. Several I have heard about hold approvals with DGCA India and Middle East, so type ratings can be added to local licences without conversion.
The flying experience after the type rating will always be difficult hurdle but I met several new pilots who eventually got jobs in their local countries. The airlines from the Middle East through India and into Asia are desperate for pilots and do not have the capacity or the time to train enough cadets to meet their planned a/c deliveries, they have no option but to take the best new pilots they can find from the open market.

Don't give up.

Starting with no A320 hours

Before you go pay for exensive type ratings, talk to the airline you want to work for. Where you do your rating might not be 'approved' by the country's authority. (ie cheap type rating in the US might be worth nothing)
