Well, on the upside. At least it wasn't methamphetamine this time. I guess that is a positive trend for Indonesian aviation.

My message was not related to the crappy translation but writing here this kind of news or helping the press to spread the "merde"
Despite the fact that there is an investigation on course and you don´t know the final result, It could be the result of a false positive, and there are a lot of legal substances and conditions that can cause a false positive:

THC (Marijuana) false positive can be caused by:
Dronabinol (Marinol)
Ibuprofen; (Advil, Nuprin, Motrin, Excedrin IB etc)
Ketoprofen (Orudis KT)
Kidney infection (Kidney disease, diabetes) Liver Disease
Naproxen (Aleve)
Promethazine (Phenergan, Promethegan)
Riboflavin (B2, Hempseed Oil)

Amphetamines - Substances or Conditions which can cause false positives :
Ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, propylephedrine, phenylephrine, or desoxyephedrine
(Nyquil, Contact, Sudafed, Allerest, Tavist-D, Dimetapp, etc)
Phenegan-D, Robitussin Cold and Flu, Vicks Nyquil
Over-the-counter diet aids with phenylpropanolamine (Dexatrim, Accutrim)

Opiates - Substances or Conditions which can cause false positives :

Poppy Seeds
Tylenol with codeine
Most prescription pain medications
Cough suppressants with Dextromethorphan (DXM)
Kidney infection, Kidney Disease
Diabetes, Liver Disease

Cocaine - Substances or Conditions which can cause false positives :

Kidney infection (kidney disease)
Liver infection (liver disease)
Amoxicillin, tonic water

And the list goes on.......

Posting here the picture and the full name of this poor guy is not ethical at all, even if he´s found guilty. And in some first world countries -which Indomessia is not a part of- the source of this new, not you of course, would be prosecuted.
Having said that, I very much doubt about the reliability of any test done in a country where airlines like Lion Air are allowed.

By the way, your news are always welcome, and I thank you for taking the job to keep us informed.

Garuda co-pilot tests negative for psychotropic drugs | The Jakarta Post

Garuda Indonesia co-pilot Viktor Munoz Lopez, who was accused of using psychotropic drugs, has tested negative for the substances, according to an announcement on Tuesday.

The announcement was made following a string of further investigations carried out by two independent institutions in Makassar, South Sulawesi: Siloam Hospital and Prodia Laboratory.

A similar investigation, witnessed by external entities, was also carried out by an internal team from Garuda Indonesia.

“The three institutions carrying out the further investigation said based on the examination results, co-pilot Victor Munoz Lopez tested negative for psychotropic drugs,” said Garuda Indonesia vice president of corporate communications, Pujobroto, in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post, on Wednesday.

The statement says that not only psychotropic drugs but also prescribed medicines from physicians can carry indications for use.

“Even when it was not yet proven, Garuda Indonesia had taken measures to ground co-pilot Victor Munoz Lopez for further investigation,” said Pujobroto.

Lopez was previously accused of testing positive for psychotropic drugs by the South Sulawesi branch of National Narcotics Agency (BNN).

South Sulawesi BNN chief Sr. Comr. Richard P. Nainggolan said according to an initial examination, there were only indications that Lopez had used psychotropic drugs, so a further investigation was required.

Richard also claimed he had never said that Lopez tested positive for the substances.

He made the clarification in a press conference at the Idul Fitri 1434 H post in Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Tuesday evening.

“Based on clarifications from the head of South Sulawesi BNN and the results of the further examinations, Garuda Indonesia will still employ co-pilot Lopez for flight duties,” said Pujobroto. (ebf)
