tigerair captains pay

Hi, just wondering if anyone working as a skipper at tiger can give me the actual average take home pay after tax? I see the tax rate for capts is between 8-12%, but whats the real rate that is used? Would appreciate if one of u working there can give me the accurate numbers. Thanks

Thanks! Its interesting to know how much the tax rate exactly is and how many hrs a guy does a month, cos the first 20hrs included in basic, and i believe its SGD 113/hr above 20. 20k gross would be good even by Sin standards

yes the pay is definitely good to "normal people"

but when you sit back and think about the responsibilities a captain is being entrusted with, 20k doesn't come easy.

when everything is going well, 20k seems easy money. but when something goes wrong up there, you will feel every penny of the 20k is truly hard earned

Couldn't agree with u more, i believe what we go through on some days cannot be valued, seriously the stress levels associated is just crazy at times, currently there are days i do 6 sectors, and on the final one back to base, conditions, a tired crew, and many other factors just make it so hard, 20k is like u say very small on those days

tigerair captains pay

6 sectors?
Wow.. U are a highly utilised crew my friend.
Throw in bad Wx, congestion, and minimum fuel, brain saturation would be the likely outcome. But a multi-crew environment is always a boon in this industry.
Either way, Its OK to Go-Around..
80-90 hrs is ave.. But pushing to max 100/28days is not uncommon.
Onus is on the crew to keep track.

Pilots leaving

the refueller told me that a bunch of Captains are waiting for start dates at EK to become FOs
if Tiger doesn't start paying competitive wages soon, more are set to leave for a REAL career

The pay would definitely be good for me but agree depends on where you're coming from really i.e experience and whether there are any realistic alternatives and personal circumstances - single/married.

In terms of how much more is considered competitive!?... again a moot point but pilots at my place seem to think that a 0% tax environment, free housing and free schooling is 'normal'. 0% tax is far from normal if you're coming from Europe and other places and schooling/housing are normally for 'contract' jobs or permanent ones at airlines undergoing massive expansion to attract pilots. Some folk seem not to distinguish between a contract job from a permanent one but if you've no loyalty to a particular country and your goal is to earn money over a set period and move on or settle back home then suppose not totally unreasonable as contracts can be quite long (3 years). Sometimes contracts have good commuting options also. You certainly can get more money in China and the Middle East (given tax, schooling, housing). People sometimes don't consider cost of living also, a lower salary in say Vietnam may actually be better than that in Singapore but folk would rather compensate their standard of living to come out on top. It is easier for some to work away from home with a young family also but again personal circumstances.

I don't fly for Tiger but got a couple of friends who are Capts there... Re. people leaving for Emirates - when people leave don't assume it's just about money - people want to try longhual or no longer want to fly for a low cost carrier. Also people want to be closer to home e.g Europe or UK or want to work for a more organised company. I know of a few people who don't actually like Singapore or got bored of it reasonably quickly.

Yes u have a point though sometimes most often than not its a balance ur trying to strike. For me and a load of others i would be happy anywhere other than the middle east, but for some maybe the sand pit is awesome. So taking M.E out that would leave china as probably the best place simply for the dough and commuting. I switched from ultra long haul to the 320 simply cos of lifestyle and yes money wasn't the sole reason, however looking at what has been said about tiger and the guys working there, its no doubt arguably the best gig going for 320 rated guys and in that part of the world, taking into consideration the off time per month is very good, but maybe for some its not good enough, well good luck with trying to find better ones in the current hole our job is in...

Initial command possibilities with tiger?

Any idea for those working in Tiger or close to management whether they accept experienced FO on the bus rated A330/340 with International Airline experience to be considered as a new direct entry Capt on A320 who is willing to sign the bond?
Is there a programe as such for initial command from direct entry FO. What sort of experience currently they are giving opportunity for their senior FO's to be upgraded.
Appreciate all the replies guys. Cheers

Dear FlyByWire1,

The upgrades in Tiger are by seniority, you're going to the bottom of the list with approximately 120 FOs in front of you. Regarding direct entry as Captain coming from a FO position in another company, forget it...that does not exist in Tiger.

Cheers

Hey guys, can you please tell me how you get to the 20k a month? I've been adding the basic plus hourly rates and it's more like 17k gross so about 15k nett. Is there any extra income not noted here that should be considered?
Thanks in advance.

A319rider. I think its 11k basic, includes first 20hrs. And average around 80 a month. So at around 12% tax a month, youll make around $12.5k US that is, but yes i too have heard bigger numbers and its the reason i started this thread.
