These LCC mentalities are really hard to comprehend: Do the airlines management ask the fuel vendor to sell fuel at 30% discount because "we are LCCs"?! Do they ask the airports for discount on landing fees? So they press the workers, put them in crappier hotels, etc etc. Even though its exactly the same job flying a 787 for Scoot or SQ. In other words, the workers are expected to compensate for the airlines business model. But on the flip side, when Scoot having load factor north of 90% while SQ at the mid 70%, do the workers get a pay raise?
yes on paper it looks good, but yields are v low for LCC
competition is intense, LCC tickets are depressed
Scoot probably need a LF of 80% to be profitable but SQ probably only need 40% LF to be profitable, just for example

I would be interested to fly the 787. But just the financial aspect kinda holding me back from this gig. I am currently earning about the same money as 737 skipper as scoot offers but living in a way cheaper country. I have seen them advertising for roadshows and recruiting DEC again. Does anyone know if they still ask for this huge amount of money upfront? For me it just doesn't make sense to pay so much money upfront as deposit and for typerating costs for a job that pays me the same as I currently earn....
but then, u won't be staying much in base with the rather busy roster

That's great. Management sets the price of tickets hence controls the yield. It is their business models. They don't ask concessions from fuel vendors and they dont ask concessions from airport authority, nor the IRS. Yet they ask the pilots to subsidize their business model and profitability.
which is why terms are eroding everywhere, not just here
the intense competition is keeping the prices low, if the airline isn't competitive, they're soon gonna start chopping headcount

Sure as others have said here those are terms and conditions still being offered and folks are going. The thing is the HR unprofessionalism. They never got back with the results, never replied to the umpteen mails and instead just went ahead and advertising again.TO me it’s seems like wanting people to come and give their HR a practice on recruiting.

Thanks bubble for the really detailed reply. Myself and I’m sure others are very appreciative.
May I ask, with all the hiring of direct entry captains, why is FO to CA progression still 3-4 years- is this an average due to the lower experience levels?

sad FACT.... company run by moron 22yr HR girls. MNGT Pilots have very little say in recruitment and also who stays and goes... In all a very toxic environment to work in....
Low pay, no lifestyle roster, never getting your promised off days, constant roster instability, non existent union run by eunuch, bonds that are not realistic, a dicking around and all high and mighty HR dept plus SG being expensive to live.
Stay away guys and girls...has the potential to be a good gig if they fix problems..... but not yet... will need to have uncrewed aircrafts on tarmac like Tiger in 2011.. then changes will happen.
my 2 US cents

Scoot is a LCC subsidiary of SQ, thats the only common denominator. Nothing else.
One thing foreigners must understand is like every other company owned by Sg, it is run by your typical Sg HR with the cost first Sg mindset, and Unfortunately this HR is "not the best" like what slayerdude mentioned. U pay peanuts u get peanuts is the saying.
From people I know, Pay technically IS one of the highest in the SEA region (SQ and MI aside) but Singapore is also BY FAR the MOST expensive place to stay in. With family and kids, and wife not working, unless you do it the Sg way, going public schools, eating at coffee shops, expect to barely even save at all as a expat Fo. That said, Single guys are gonna be fine.

DEC Bond / Bank Guarantee for Direct Entry Captain
I've heard the Bond / Bank Guarantee amount for 787 DEC is around US$45,000 to 50,000. Anyone know how much it is for 320 Direct Entry Captain? or 737 DEC?
