Scoot Captain's Pay
Can anyone who is flying for Scoot tell me what is the average monthly hours and Pay. Do you get meal allowances?

Scoot update
Would also be interested in understanding the local terms for both Captain and FO. Where are they sourcing their newhires - primarily from Asia or will they hire Europeans? Looks like all of those pilots will need to convert over to 787s eventually....

"They're operationally interchangeable so there's no efficiency impact, but the different capacities open more options with respect to network and deployment," he adds.

Boys boys boys...If I were you, I wouldn't be in any hurry to head to Scoot, now or in the future. Have a gander at what SQ is doing to the Expat Captains...leave our island now...don't come back, we don't need you. Foreigners not welcome! I know quite a few guys who have been "dumped" and let go after years of dedicated service to the mighty SIA. Scoot does not pay any allowances outside of a basic salary. To try to live and survive in Singapore without a housing or schooling allowance...it will leave you out of cash at the end. LOCAL terms only. I suppose if a guy is out of work or wants to pay for a 777 ticket, it might be a place to start. Just not for me. SQC is much the same...rolling rosters, local contracts and sh*tty terms. The only difference is that they let the ones who will do as they're told stay.

Have to agree with Left Coaster. I'm an expat In the industry,working in 9V land. The winds of change are a blowing through the place, especially wrt to Europeans/Westerners. It is also now too expensive to live in with a family,... by the time you account for condo rental, Health/dental insurance, utilities,tax, education,........and you want a car.......Forget it. :-/
Do the homework, do the Maths ! Opportunities for the spouse to get employment and help with the income........forget it... "Why would we employ a Westerner in front of a Singaporean", is the commonly heard phrase.
Those expats that do well out here are in the finance industry, they work in western companies, ...that don't have Singaporeans at the top of the organigram.

I don't want to appear smug, but the writings being on the lavatory wall for some time now, Singaporeans have one significant s Achilles heel, they are staunchly pro Singapore and extreme jingoism is inherent in to their culture. They are all things to all men. They try to embrace all culture, boil it down and produce their unique version of a master race. A facade to all outsiders of openness and tolerance.
The reality is of course some what different. They openly loved foreigner s while the government said as much. No they openly berate the white man. Your culture of sex any openess cannot be tolerated. you must all leave, now.

What I understand from my friend flying in Scoot, captains make about SGD 19K
before tax based on 80 hrs of flying. But 80 hrs is not assured if one goes on leave. Benefits almost nil compared to regular airlines.

To answer your question in a nutshell , Scoot pays peanuts. On a different page , the future of scoot does not look too bright. Firstly the strategy to start Scoot was a muddled decision , SQ is cannibalising it's own market.Rather than just reduce their fares and offer more capacity they went in for another airline.Now they are planning the 787s more because SQ doesnt want them. Rather than just continue with their 2 airline strategy of SQ and MI , they went in for Scoot and Tiger.Eventually they will pay the price.The SEA market will have casualities in the not too distant future.

It is too early to judge SQ's game plan. Wait until 2015 when ASEAN's airspace will be opened freely to all its country members. By then, only the fittest will survive.

Yes VR you are correct the open skies model in ASEAN when it comes out in 2015 will be a game changer.It will do to ASEAN what it did to Europe , where many legacy carriers are fighting to survive even today while some already closed down.The mistake that the SIA group did was they reacted too late to the situation.When the market does open up it will be Air Asia and Lion Air that will be poised to storm the market because they have the narrow body orders to match.It is only last year that SIA put in the order for MI on a reasonably big scale and they did this in anticipation of the open skies policy.If I were them , I would have never started Scoot but simply increased the fleet size of SQ mainline and MI and be ready to play a vicious price war without dimishing the product.Why would anyone pay $ 100 less and travel a budget airline on a 6 hour flight when you can travel full service with no add on charges ?

Scoot captains paid approx 20k Sgd before taxes(which are about 10%).
As compared to SQ mainline of about 26k(expat).
Scoot had itself very well organized. Right until the point the 787's decided to play truant.
NOW its in trouble.
By 1st July the same SQ mainline which had 'let go' of its 'excess' expat pilots, will
have 28 pilots short for operation of its NORMAL flight schedules....!
And all this whilst EVERY airline in the world is hiring the 777 driver!
A subtle reflection of the 'Chinaman' mentality.
As compared to SQ mainline of about 26k(expat).

I think SQ lost the plot from the time they bought 49% of Virgin Atlantic. It never made any business sense at all, not at any price and in particular not the price they paid for it.
