Have a gander at what SQ is doing to the Expat Captains...leave our
island now...don't come back, we don't need you. Foreigners not
welcome!
Its been like that ever since the MSA split yonks ago in 1972. When it
became SIA the gwailos were then forever on the chopping block were
possible.

I still remember Freddie Koh introducing himself to our batch in early
1990 saying "You are all needed but definitely not wanted." Some of
the blokes took that as an insult - far as I was concerned he simply
was telling the truth.

SCOOT should be opening up for Pilot recruitment again early 2014... They'll be needing pilots for the present 777s and future 787s coming in Nov 2014.

Can mainline SIA pilots just bid for positions at Scoot or is considered a separate division for which they would apply? What about Silkair pilots - can they also bid on open Scoot slots like their SIA colleagues or is it a separate application, etc.?

Also, can someone please elaborate on the "unpaid leave fiasco at SIA?" Did that happen recently?

Cheers

The "Unpaid Leave" fiasco is all over the internet.Approximately 70 pilots from SIA who were on expat terms have been asked to leave. The management said that they would try to "place" them which actually means that they will be put into Scoot and if required Silk Air at a later stage when the B 737s start coming in.With the present trend, expect more SIA pilots to be "let go" for Scoot. Now the problem compounds itself if the Scoot "experiment" fails.Which would mean more pilots without jobs.

Anything new? Are they still needing captains? Where and for how long is training and what is the pay during training? I see that they want the candidate to pay for 50% of the type rating, how much is that?

When Scoot has hired FOs, where have they been sourcing them from? Any trends in terms of sources? Silkair? SQ Cargo? Lion Air? Military?

Command will likely be quicker once the 787s start to arrive - I believe starting 2015 or so... 20 on order. I think the fleet is currently flat with 5-6 777-200s.

No command program in Scoot as of today.

For the command program tp happen, they need the approval
from CAAS.

Don't come to Scoot for a quick command.

El Capitan,

Any idea of the experience levels of those interviewed? Previous 777 experience? Lion Air refugees?

Cheers
