Grrr indian CPL Renewal - might not be too simple to answer

Hey eveyone,

This actually might not be too simple to answer.
Let me break it down to you helpful ppl ere.

I got my SA CPL converted to indian CPL in apr 2008.
I got it converted on PA 30 twin com without getting a
SE end on the license ( stupid )
So now I have to renew my license before april

Meanwhile I work for air force and have more than 150 hrs on
Dornier 228. Now ques are -

Do I need to do a recency test coz I been flying all this while -
Just not the twin com endorsed on my license but dornier
As per the recency requirement you should have done 10 hrs
In last 6 months which I have done and it does not mention anywhere
That the aircraft has to be endorsed on the license.

I have not cleared dornier dgca tech paper yet

I have cleared C152 dgca tech exam

Now is it possible for me to jus take a type rating on C152 and
Then the CPL would be renewed in lieu of the hrs I have on dornier.

Or do I have to do type rating on C152 first and after it gets
Endorsed on the license, do I do my CPL recency tests ?

Help would really be appreciated.

Cheers

Taken from Aircraft Rules 1937
Schedule II , Section L

3. Renewal – The licence may be renewed on receipt of satisfactory evidence of the applicant.

(a) having undergone a medical examination in accordance with para 1(c) above

(b) having satisfactorily completed not less than ten hours of flight time as Pilot-in-Command(Fifty percent of flight time as Co-Pilot may be counted towards the requirement of flight time as Pilot-in-Command) within a period of six months immediately preceding the date of application for renewal, or in lieu thereof, having satisfactorily completed the general flying test by day and night as laid down in clause (h) of paragraph 1 within the same period; and

(c) having a current Flight Radio Telephone Operator’s Licence for operation of radio telephone apparatus on board an aircraft, issued by the Director-General.
Look at part b

From my understanding of whats written here

1 )At the time renewal you should have either 10 hours PIC in the past 6 months

or

2) 20 hours as Co Pilot time within the past 6 months

or in lieu of the above

3) Give a skill test i.e Day Check and Night Check

Honestly speaking go and pay the DTL a visit . Even though you show them the rules they always seem to have their own methods on how to implement it

Take a print out of the rules to show it to them just in case they forget it .

While what cyril said has a lot of weight, you also have the flight times, DGCA interprets the rules very differently.....

I would strongly recommend on getting a C-152 endorsement on your CPL, it would take 5-6 hrs of flying. Then submit the papers for endorsement of C-152 & renewal of CPL based on your Air Force flying.

If DGCA does not accept Air Force flying (which they should ideally, but remember, the are the DGCA), then you have the option of doing a day & night test for renewal.

Once your CPL expires, then you will have no option left if DGCA decides not to count your flying.

Fighting DGCA on anything that is not normal, everyday stuff or something out of ordinary, is very difficult.......

Hey guys this post has been most helpful in getting the details for CPL renewal, but i wanted to clarify a bit on this. My CPL expires July 2014 ( im just preparing for the worst ) i have a C-152 and Pa-34 on it. Now as per what was mentioned above

Now the process has been very well explained by cyrilroy21 i understand that its either 10 Hrs PIC or the GFT Day and Night as laid down in clause (h) of paragraph 1 ,

Now if you go thru clause (h) it mentions:

(h) Skill— He shall have demonstrated his
competency to perform the procedures and
manoeuvres prescribed in the syllabus to the satisfact
ion of an examiner, on the type of aeroplane
to which the application for licence relates, with
in a period of six months immediately preceding
the date of application. The competency shall be demonstrated in —

(i) general flying test by day;
(ii) general flying test by night;
(iii) a cross-country flight test by day consisting of a flight of not less than two hundred
fifty nautical miles in the course of which at least one full stop landing at an
aerodrome other than the aerodrome of departure shall be made; and
(iv) a cross-country flying test by night consisting of a flight of not less than one hundred
twenty nautical miles returning to the place of departure without landing elsewhere.
Which is basically :
GFT DAY-1 Hr
GFT Night-1 Hr
250 NM day -6 Hrs (approx)
100 NM Night-2 hrs (approx)
Total -10 Hrs

Now
No.1 -Did i interpret that correctly or am i wrong ?? and do i just need to do a GFT Day & Night chk

No.2- Since i would want to Renew both single and Multi Engine on my CPl do i need to do the above on C-152 and PA-34 ??? or is just doing it on the C-152 enough .( coz doing every thing is gonna cost a bomb i guess i rather get Type rated )

So if any one could shed some light on this part of it, i would really appreciate it ,and if any of you have recently by any chance renewed your CPL please help a brother out ...THANKS

I am currently in USA for some days and would be flying around a bit. My CPL is expiring by the end of February 2014 and if I fly 10 hours PIC in Cessna 172(which is endorsed on my license) in USA and be back in India and apply for renewal before the expiration date will DGCA renew it based on the flying done outside India?
Thanks

@Van-Driver

Ideally speaking they should renew it . But seeing how anti foreign the DGCA has been of late it would be have been easier to just do the skill test in India

However if you still plan on flying the 10 hours PIC in the US make sure you do it at a Part 141 flight school ( i.e schools that are approved by the FAA and get a copy of the air agency certificate as well )
