SeaPlane Endorsement on Indian Lic.

is anyone aware how to get Seaplane rating endorsed on indian CPL.
I have Indian CPL. I'm planning to get 10hrs of float from canada as per the DGCA requirement. But will DGCA accept it? There are no Float examiners in India as far I know have spoken to few instructors. All say no examiner on floats.
There are no float C172 that also is a worry as, will DGCA endorse a rating on float??

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome... anyways planning to visit DGCA 2mrw let see what they say and will post their views here in the mean while keep the your valuable comments pouring...

Why would you want to get a sea plane endorsement? There is only 1 sea plane operator in India. Have you checked with them?

To get a sea plane endorsed on your Indian license, you require 10hrs on type along with 5 take off's and landings as PIC. If you're looking to get a C208 endorsed on your license, you would require to do around 5hrs basic float rating on a 180/206. Then advance yourself on to the 208. The whole program would cost you around 28000 USD. Are you willing to spend that much for a single engine turbo prop job?

PM me for more info.

As far as I know Pawan Hans Helicopters operates a Cessna 208 on floats in India. The aircraft was bought from Norway in 2010 I think. Then you have quite a large seaplane operation in the Maldives with Twin Otters and Caravans

Are you sure Pawan Hans Helicopters has a float plane ?
Couldn't find anything on their website.
I work for MAT in the Maldives, anyone with 3500 TT and 1000 hrs on floats, send them your resume.

Have a good day !

There's a decent Caravan based out of Andaman (Pawan Hans it appears) , does tourist work around Port Blair, Havelock etc ., it's still cruising around happily and busy I gather. Mostly foreign skippers with local fo's

Here it is.,., Tada ! :: Mehair :: An ISO 9001:2008, 14001:2004 Certified Company

The operations were supposed to start in September 2012. But since it is the Kerala govt and the red flags have risen supporting the fishermen communities along with a bunch of tree "lovers", the project is still not materialized yet.

Even though over 50 individuals gave an EOI during the emerging Kerala meet, only 6 came forward in the end. Out of this 6, only 1 company got any sea plane experience(Mehair). Pawan Hans is just a white elephant who has no experience and is no longer in the Kerala picture. The other companies are Turbo Aviation, Bharath Aviation, Wings, Pinnacle Air and one more. It will be a miracle if it ends up with even 2 operators. Heard via the grapevine that 2 have already left the scene.

None of these companies are hiring now unless you are an experienced sea plane pilot with a few hours on the C-208A. If you are thinking of getting a rating on the 208A, forget it! If you're following the DGCA syllabus, it will cost you almost 28,000 USD(Rating only in Sweden/Australia). Like I said, don't waste your money unless you get something in writing.

I'd bet on April end to see something happening. On the other happy side, we will now have a lot of rich puppies running around with a 208 amphibian rating.

Happy Floatings

Niks

Seaplane Adventures will do a 10 hour C208 Amphib seaplane rating for about $25,000.

It's a hell of a lot of money for a rating but hey if you're silly enough to pay for it they will give it to ya.

Too high cost for a rating

One does not need to fly Cessna Amphibian to obtain a seaplane rating . A two seater aircraft on float is good enough .
However ,
If you want to have actual time on C208A , 10 hour Training on C208A should not be more than 10000 $ .

How can you only work as a FO in C208? It's a single pilot aircraft... If you sit in the right hand seat you are just a passenger.

The hours that you log as SIC wont be accepted in many places as the aircrafts type certificate doesnt requite two pilots. You MAY get away with it if the operations specification of the company require two pilots.

However, in terms of career progression to the airlines - right hand seat hours in a C208 are worthless.

10 hour Training on C208A should not be more than 10000 $
Could you please point the direction where that would be available?

The minimum experience requirement for who gets hired is usually determined by the company that insures the aircraft. To fly a Caravan on floats in Canada or Alaska you would be looking at a minimum of 1500 hr. TT with 1000 hr. on floats and 50 hr. on the caravan on floats. Some companies will accept in-house upgrade training from higher time float pilots.

For the operation in India, find out what their insurance minimums are and work from there. Get an F/O seat on a Twin Otter in the Maldives, then wrangle a 185 or Beaver seat in some mosquito-infested paradise in N Canada or Alaska to get some hard seat time. Then present yourself to the India Caravan outfit (after the mosquito bite swelling goes down)
