Delhi airport transit

Does any one know if I but duty free (alcohol) from LHR and then have a connecting flight to AMD via DEL if they let you take the alcohol through security again as they normally only have the 100ml limit, I have emailed the airport and they say to put duty free in your checked in luggage but that's not possible as bags will be checked through to AMD from LHR and duty free is after passport control at LHR,

Hope someone can answer this, it will be on Air india so arriving and departing terminal 3 DEL

hey AI101..
1. No you cannot carry alcohol on your cabin baggage with in India.
2. Yes you might have checked in your luggage all the way to AMD.. but I am more than likely sure that you will have to collect your luggage at International Arrival and Check them in again at DEL, since you will be clearing your customs upon arrival at DEL, they will have to have a look at your baggage. So, you can transfer your liquor bottles to check in baggage at DEL.

Happy Flying !!.. and err Happy Drinking

I have checked with the airline and the bags will be checked all the way to AMD and we will clear customs at AMD as the domestic sector from DEL TO AMD will land at AMD international terminal and not domestic,

In the past I have been through BOM where they just take the bottles from you at security with your name and flight number and give you a tag so you can collect them at AMD when you land

Hi AI

You really do not want to take the bottles out in the open in AMD. Unfortunately, the entire state of Gujarat is a dry state. You better check the rules with regard to carrying alcohol in the state of Gujarat.

not trying to be a fuddy duddy here but all this fuss over 2 measly bottles of whatever spirit you want to carry. knowing us indians, its most likely some scotch or the other.
buy it before duty free, n check it in the checked bags if it is so important to you. street prices in london wont be much different from duty free at LHR.

that being said, please close this discussion.
in no way related to pilots or the profession of flying.

blue label or 25 yr old single malt or some local hooch. that's not the point.
AHD is in a dry province and you could lose it pretty easily to some customs guy who will be happy to enforce the rule at your expense. (we all know Indian customs read the rules however they want to)
if its that imp, buy it on the street and check it in.

I

Just for your info it will not be taken off you at customs if you are a foreign national because that permits you to carry alcohol in Gujarat state, the reason not to buy it off the street and put into checked luggage is that if the catch this then they will make you pay duty for importing it ( I believe it's about 200% in Gujarat for alcohol) if you say no then not only Will they take it from you but also fine you for trying to hide the bottles from customs by packing them in your bags

The reason Gujrat is a dry state is that this allows the politicians (who keep it a dry state) to organize the sale of booze in a way that lines their own pockets. As always, ask yourself cui bono?
