Hi

How is the city like to live in? Does it compare to BKK?
Accomodation wise, can you live downtown rather than on the pilot dorms which would be pretty dull I guess?

Finally time to command for a guy with 11000hrs and 6000 on the 757/767/737 but all RHS?

Anybody have any info on scheduling? I spoke with a local EVA FO about a year ago and he said he was getting very good scheduling with 10 days off per month. I'm hoping the question/ answer got messed up in poor translation and that there is more time off than that. Anybody care to share what is realistic for days off per month? My wife is Taiwanese and I've lived in Taiwan before and enjoyed it. However, I'm not going for it and leaving my current job to be away from my family that much more than I already am.

Are all the pilots put on the National health care system for health insurance, or is there some other deal for that?

Can anybody tell me how much the housing allowance is for those that wish to live there with their family?

Are their any openings for foreign pilots out of KHH?

Are there any rules about commuting (inner island) like having to live within a certain distance from TPE or KHH? I'd prefer to live in the south and take the high speed train up to Taoyuan if I couldn't be based in KHH.

I have no idea if I can even get the job so my questions are just things to help me decide if I want to try- I'm not trying to sound like someone who believes they are gods gift to aviation and can work wherever they want. I would simply like some more specific info than I have been able to find. Thanks to anyone with answers.

Update on EVA

Hello....

Basic Reqs: 2000TT, 500 turbine, ATP, TR or NTR.

Hiring ONLY through a broker, try APAS!

No Europe Bases, only TPE.

Sim on the 747 or 330 (airbus experience). No tricks, good briefing, straight forward.

Training bond...yes! talk to your broker/agency.

Anyone has experience working with APAS or GPS who are looking for EVA Air applicants?

Any suggestion on what are the differences and which one might be a better choice to go with?

Thanks Flying Kratos.

Anyone know if one can later add the type rating to FAA license later in future after flying with EVA Air.

Taiwan not being an ICAO contracting state does that hinder future prospects?

Or it mostly the experience that matters?

EVA AIR screening

Hello,
written test: 50 questions
1/3 TAF-METAR - trend-prob...
2/3 basic ATPL questions ( ils beamwidth, latitute distance, TAS/mach...)

simulator session B747: you will receive the profile
you will fly only manually

English test: they record your conversation. Someone listen to u , blind test.

Group interview: like usual

Pilots interview: debrief of your sim

Medical: 1 day and half

Been watching this thread for awhile and thinking of applying, I just have to take care of some things here in the States first before I cold go over there.

Just two questions:

How is the medical exam over there? Is it extremely in depth like China and Japan? I'm colorblind with certain colors, its never been a problem here in the US and I have a waiver.

Does the 8 days consecutive/month OFF still hold true?

The previous statements on this topic were 15 months old, thanks.

Taiwan Medical Check

HVYMETAL,

Regarding to the medical check in Taiwan, it is not that strict as in China, but colorblind won't be accepted.

I have an interview coming up, 2400TT ATP 1000 Turboprop and 600 jet 121. I have problems with the color plates, but I can pass the light gun test and colored string test. Some AMEs passed me on previous Class 1.

I just sent in my application 2 days ago. So just have to wait and see when I hear from them. I sent it my application through APAS.

They have been good so far. Hopefully, I get called for an Interview- TT 2500, 550 Jet, 1500 Turbo-prop and 1300 PIC and no problem in medical.

Is it the Ishihara Color Plate test? are there any other options if you don't get all the plates? I've heard in China some guys slide by if they pass the test.

Just wondering, and if I'm not eligible thanks for saving me all the time and effort of interviewing and possibly going over there just to find out they won't take me.

I have done medical in the past in Asia but not in Taiwan or China. But the medical took 2 days still.

Had to go to separate doctors for different things and at the end go to the physician and get all the reports evaluated at the end.

I think since it would be a first time for everyone joining EVA it would be more stringent, but once you get the medical cleared it would be fine.

What I can think of medical in Asia would be to get an X-ray of the Chest, get urine and blood tested for sugar levels and any diseases, do an ENT test with hearing test using tuning forks and a sound played on each ear and you hit a button confirming left or right and the frequency keeps changing.

For the eye test, I have had different test- reading the letters on the cubicle about 15 feet away, reading small text through a scope and stating the letters and the horizontal and vertical displacement of horizon using laser. For color test where ever I went it was always the same - Ishihara Test.

For physical- it is the test of just general conditions of movements of arms, do an EKG, I never did a run on the treadmill- it was only required if you were above 40 in most cases. BMI is more important compared in Asia to the medicals in USA but you wouldn't get a medical unless your BMI is outrageously high- north of 30-35.

But unless you go try and go through the tests, you wouldn't know!
