AlphaEcho86,

Nope...sorry. For low time pilots they are getting their own product (MPL). Keep flying, get your hours...seems like good times ahead (knock on wood).

4- Eva Union is starting up.

Maybe someone has more updated info....
EVA union is nothing, killed off by management and its relations with the Ministry of Labor.

I've heard that some countries which have better relations w/ Taiwan will allow conversion via an informal arrangement. It's probably best you specifically confirm w/ NZCAA though to see if they have such an process.

We did have a Kiwi Taiwanese at our flight school who made it to CAL. Good luck!
And what school is that if I may ask? Can you please elaborate on his/her background, hours, and what year was it? It's been a grind to find people in similar situations. Thanks heaps!

This was a flight school in the USA. He came in as a self-sponsored student with zero time, got his Private, Commercial, and Multi, and was hired by CAL in early 2015. Now an A330 FO. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone,

this seems to be a very debated topic.
I actually finish my assessment successfully , and want to get a head start regarding training.
Any that can help me get a big picture of whats coming next?
How long takes the training?
any material that can be shared?
what is the average pass mark?
how long to start training line training?

1 month ground school(induction, CBT, all other drills and trainings)
1 ~ 1.5m sim
2 weeks break
2 ~ 2.5m line training

i get the impression ground school and technical&knowledge exams are more or less just formalities to tick off requirement(you do your exams online with unlimited time and attempts), but oral tests and sims are quite in depth and demanding. So I suggest you buy B777 fcom and do some readings beforehand.

Hi,
Does anyone know how much an expat captain can expect after the upgrade on his/her monthly salary?

Also, I’m currently a320 typed, so if i join eva now I’ll be flying the a320. But how does the transition to a wide body work? Since I’m airbus rated, will I be transitioning to a330? Or my current type don’t matter when going to a wide body.

One more thing, when commuting to work do we get confirmed tickets or stby? Are they coach or business?

Much appreciate it!

Not really sure how much the Capt salary is.
As for joining, the screening will be done on the A330 simulator but where you will go has nothing to do with your previous Type. Most likely you will end up flying FO on the 777. After your first contract (usually 3 years with broker) then you get upgraded to SFO (on your fleet or on another), and then after that you get upgraded to PIC on the A321 (no A320s in EVA).
The commuting tickets are most of the time confirmed, but I've heard some flights are more restrictive than other because of the pax loading (Paris for example) but in my case I've never had any problems. Tickets for commuting are in Biz class.

cheers

Hi,

Does anyone know whether EVA accepts an application for first officer after failed sim check at first try? Is there anyone who joined at 2nd chance?

Training bond USD 13K, half return at 12th month and another half return at 24th month is totally understandable.

But early resignation fee ranging from 10K to 30K dollars? Is this a joke?

Are bond enforceable in Taiwan? I thought they weren't enforceable in most Asian countries?

Hi! There are few news. This is as the day of today, because things change a lot. First of all, they won’t admit it but the strike from cabin crew earlier this year had quite some impact. No more year bonus! Money wise, they still pay on time tho. But no more protection on currency exchange. We are paid in NTD (Taiwan dollar) and at the moment, the USD is not good, so we are loosing money. Same for Euro. It used to be better and they used to have a protection for devaluation of the currency. But not anymore.
They are still looking for pilots because they simply can not keep them. Upgrade is kinda of a lure... it is true that they do upgrade. But, not fast at all... as any company, it depends on man power and company needs. They have a lots of cadets and of course, they will have priority. I have no idea why, but Malaysians and Japanese also have priority in upgrade. Basically within 2 years, upgrade as SFO then 3 to 4 years max, as captain. For other expats, it takes 4 to 5 years to upgrade as SFO then 5 to 6 years as Captain. Everything works with seniority and unfortunately, they can say any excuses in order not to upgrade you or to change you to an other fleet. Example, at the moment, lots of cadets and Malaysians and Japanese, and as I said, I have no idea why, they have better contract and more priority (even if they will not admit it and will keep repeat you that they treat all employee the same), that means that, as a foreigner from other country, you will upgrade after them even if you join before them. Easy to realize that, as they publish the list of upgrade, with id number and names. Id numbers are just numbers or starts with a letter (A..., B..., C... etc...) And you will see : for example you hold an id number starting like F123... and later, you will see that a guy, joining after you with id number G984.. is upgrading! As for that, it is easy to see that he joins after, but upgrade earlier. And of course, as a result all consequences, such as no improvement of your salary compare to others, lower self-esteem, etc...
Regarding work environment, it is a bit better than before but still very asian, juniors owe big respect to seniors and can not talk and express themself much. Culture of fear, punishment and bully is still very present but they try to improve... things change very slow in here.
For commuting, people are having more and more trouble. This is due to less routes. Some destinations that were daily, turned into 4/5/6 times a week, which of course makes flights more full and less seats for pilots who would like to travel back home. Again, unfortunately, as it is mentionned in their policy, the commuting seat is a privilege and the company is free to remove it any time. (Any time a more senior will fly or a passenger will pay full fare). It is best if you live somewhere in Asia, as they have multiple flights a day. Or... just live in Taiwan haha
Well, that’s it I guess. I hope it helps.

T7ER, wow that's a clear picture you paint. I was thinking about doing the selection with EVA. I'm with the Yellow/ Blue army from Dublin and waiting for a spot in the upgrade train. Since the Max has it's issues, the whole training dept has stalled.... Your story doesn't sound appealing. WHy are you still there? Any way thanks for sharing.

They just “increased” The salary, 150$ for FO and 190$ for CAP (approx) and perdiem is now 3.3$/h (was 3$ before).

lots of expats already with applications in other airlines and some locals considering going to starlux. with NCA, etihad and others offering between 8k to 10k USD for entry level FOs, Eva’s 5.5k (after tax) is a really low salary even more considering taiwan cost of living rose to the levels of Hong Kong. Since 2019 inflation is around 20%, for context.
