hi everybody!
question: why should someone choose to apply at EVA instead of Emirates? I mean, what's the difference in lifestyle, quality at work, salary, benefits, command upgrade?
I'm flying on 73ng and would like to jump on a big boy.. any info is very appreciated!

i mean, is there anyone who had experience with both and can compare? not necessarily people who hate ek will love eva and all the other possible combinations. everytime people compare emirates vs qatar vs etihad, and maybe eva vs hainan, korean or air asia.. thank's!

Personally I would consider EVA more than EK for the simple reason that I choose Taiwan/Taipei over UAE/Dubai...

I hv cleared the interview of both Dox. From what I see, money is more in EK, And so the flying. At Eva 8 days off and a nice city to live in. So it's your call. If you don't take company acco, they give you 25000 NTD for rent, but 8 days BDO will be gone.
@atlas, it's 4700 USD pm net. You get tax refund plus one mo salary as bonus. Nothing else ! Plus there's bond deduction if you go through agents.

Long time reader, first time poster, thinking about submitting an app for EVA Air. Would appreciate answers to any of the following questions:
1. Are you paid in TWD or USD?
2. What is the pay for Year 2 and Year 3?
3. Understand that a local's seniority starts their first day as a cadet pilot. That aside, are locals and expats on the same seniority list?
3a. Is bidding/scheduling/upgrading follow the seniority list, or it based on "merit" ?
4. If you choose the non-commuting option, what are the minimum days off per month?
5. Can you switch between commuting and non commuting options for different months?
6. How difficult is it to convert from expat on a contract to employee status?
7. How is your initial fleet type determined?

TWD which kinda sucks and they is no protection. Training pay is in USD though.

Nope, expats seniority is counted as 1 month for every 2 months. but you get your seniority back if you start working with them directly after 3 years.

Thanks Jack! 2 questions though. From the briefing I understood that you are entitled for a pay increase at the company's discretion upon completion of the 12th month after your first flight. That doesn't happen then?
What would be the salary at year 4 then? The first year of direct employment by EVA?

Thanks Jack! When you say "work with them directly", do you mean mean "become an actual employee" or just "scontract but with no agency"?
Are there career expat pilots there? Or is it pretty much "do a few years then move on elsewhere"?

How are the long haul schedules only 10 days off a month? TPE to most North American cities and back is around 25 hours. Are you only credited for the hours at the controls or are you doing 5 day trips to accomplish an out and back? I'm trying to wrap my mind around how the schedules actually work. Are the schedules fixed and bid by seniority? How long can new pilots expect to be on reserve?

There are career pilots at the company. Majority of them are south american or japanese!
But pay at four year is hard to say, they do increase the pay but the details are unclear.
Not sure about the schedule or how the pay works. If anyone has questions feel free to PM. I start class in few days.

Schedules are fixed and as an expat you get better schedule. They is no reserve like we have in the USA for regional or major carrier where your reserve is based on seniority. They schedule you as a standby 1-2 days a month.

Ok so I understand the basic pay after tax and excluding perdiems is $4700USD.
What about the net pay including flight pay and all allowances plus perdiems?
And what the accomodation is like?
What if I need to commute to a city not covered by EVA? And can I add leave days to my block of days off at my discreption??

Hi, Please write more information about write technical test. They're Questions from ATPL FAA? You wrote in you post, if first test is fault I will have second chance to pass this test. Is it true?

Exbrazilian.. you can add leaves to your block days off but it depends if they can approve or not.. but you sure can..you have to plan 2 months ahead. and if they don't cover your city you buy your own ticket.
Technical test is not FAA..you can look up some pages here and find info about the written test. You do take the second test if you fail.
