Anyone want to shed some life on the expat life in Taipei? Good areas, quality of life, taking a wife + maybe kids in the future, and all that good stuff. Seems like accomodation is quite reasonable for some decent places in the city. Will the company give you a good housing allowance? Does the company base pilots in the destinations (out bases)? Commuting with 8 days off a month seems silly. Is there a lot of expats flying for the company? The fact that you don't need a type rating with the machines they fly is very enticing. If take home is 6 grand a month for an FO I would consider that pretty good money. Thats about 11-12 grand gross in Canada with our taxes.

I've read that requirements on their website at 2000hrs etc blah blah. I have 3000 with 800 on an CRJ (glass) doin overseas flying for the UN currentlly in Kabul. Can anyone shed some light on the requirements to be competetive and considered? I'd kill to fly a 747-400 before they go extinct in my career timeline . They already have in my home country! The rest of their fleet (including the MD-11!!) are pretty awesome machines.

trev, if you got kids , better to stay in tai pei and lead a normal family life.
I think with your hours you will have a good chance, just apply and wait and see, you will love Tai Pei after Kabul!

Well u can only apply and see.i think you might need a ICAO ATPL to get a Taiwan ATPL , thats was required when I joined back in 2006. The lowest hours I see to remember for expats was guy with 2000 hours. Why don't you apply to HK Airlines? They are looking for type rated 737 guys right now.

Do you mena "hong kong express" I have applied there before and I was told both times they are phasing out the 737 therefore no recruitent on that fleet....??

Apply to jet star Hk as well, they will start ops next year and are recruiting now.

If you are really desperate apply to Cathay as a I cadet.

Applied as a cadet to cathay last year around this time , no call , or e-mail or anything , will have a look @ jetstar hongkong I would imagine they are A320 and want Tr guys only...?

I don't have the terms and conditions yet, although I'll be attending screening in a week or so. After that I'll be sure to post whatever details I'm able to get...I suppose EVA will provide some kind of draft contract after or during the screening.

You mentioned you had a screening end September. I have an Eva screening end October. Can you shed some light on how your screening process went, the do's and don't, types of questions asked, sim check, HR panel, medical etc. ANY info will be very welcome.

I applied directly to Eva Air. Once I had everything together, which took some time, I DHL'd the application with documents to Taipei. Worst part of the whole process is getting all the documents, letters of reference and certificates together. I hear you can also go through direct personel. Not sure how it works, I am guessing, but they probably just get a finders fee for getting you to apply, then I guess you are employed directly by Eva Air anyway.

Word from the Nankantraz prison guards is that it's better to apply directly to EVA. Don't go through any agency if you can help it. If you go through an agency you will not be placed on the EVA seniority list, therefore NO UPGRADE FOR YOU!

I have never worked for EVA AIR but I know a few guys who have used them as a stepping stone. A couple of years ago they gave people with only prop time (D8/Metro) a go and therefore the training was pretty long apparently (loooots of sims) - but once you are on the line you can do some good hours.

If you get on the MD11F Anchorage will be your second home so therefore the A330 is the way to go if you have a choice.

All but one mate left EVA for greener pastures (isn't EVA all green?) since the pay is not that great though...

I have 3000 hours total time ( 1500 hours on ATR 42/72 and 1000 on B737), is my profile good enough or are there a lot of guys rated on B777 and B747 applying for F/O positions?
