Asiana Airlines
Hey guys..I need some advice on Asiana Airlines. I looked around all the asiana threads..all info is somewhat old, so I decided to start a new thread.
I am currently working in my home country, TT 3200, A320 time 2050. Have been looking at relocating myself to a foreign land, and applying to airlines for the same. I applied to Asiana Airlines through Parc, heard back from Parc and I need some advice.
I am looking at moving as a 320 F/o. The contract terms are 3 yrs renewable. Salary USD 6500 after tax, including accommodation.
How is Asiana to work with. How is the work environment and do they treat expats well. Are they a 'my way or the highway' kinda guys or you get your space as a pilot. Read in a thread that the accommodation offered is not great, and also no transport provided when in base, how true is that.
What abt the growth possibilities in the company. Do they upgrade expat p2 to left seat, or maybe to a wide body? Is the contract generally renewed at the end of 3 years, and is there a possibility of the contract ending up a permanent job as any point of time?
How is Seoul as a place to stay, in terms of cost of living, infrastructure, recreation, transportation, safety, etc etc.

Well...
Had an experience with Parc/Asiana, may years ago.
Parc use to be top of notch, don't know about nowadays. Asiana is a good airline, though you'd have to adapt to their cultural values and way to do things. There's plenty of material to study here.
Standards are pretty strict and you are required to have a humble and nice attitude. Expect to be fairly treated.
Upgrade to left seat is highly improbable, but who knows?
Seoul is a quantum leap on whatever you could have in India. Absolute first world metropolis.

What i gather from the posts here is that Parc is ok..Rishworth or 'Rishworse' as is called more often is something better steered clear of..
Adapting to the local traditions and the companies ways is fine by me...I am humble my nature so they should not have any problems if I do get a changce to work wid them..
My main concern is upgrade..I understand that the average age of a P1 is well above 40's internationally, but we Indians have been spoilt as we have guys in early 20's flying in command..I dont want a upgrade immediately..but would like the company I join to have a policy where I can be hopeful atleast..someting on the lines as offered by Emirates..which I have also applied to btw..
I guess Seoul would definitely be a better place than where I am now..will do some reading on that..

As I can see you're concerned about a captain upgrade.
So, as you pointed out, if you have an opportunity to have a relatively fast such upgrade in your own country I really don't see the point in trying something so distant, on many ways, outfit.
Go to Indigo/GoAir, they will need a lot of drivers and expect a fast command upgrade. If you are really keen of tasting some years abroad it would be a lot easier with some 3K PIC on your pocket.
Please let me know what you're really looking for.
As for Asiana upgrading expat FOs never heard about such policy before.
May I suggest you to contact Parc on this regard.

I guess i need to clear my head first..if i go wid asiana then i can forget command for the forseeable future..not someting I am comfortable with..will have to think it over..
Btw..do you have any info on dragon air..they hiring F/o..great package..

Career with Asiana Airlines
Is it possible to join Asiana as F/O and have a good career for the rest of your life? Like one day become a captain, and upgrade from A320 to A330 or something bigger?
Or is Asiana just an airline to spend some time and leave as soon as you can?
I'm thinking of applying for A320 F/O, but I need your help with this!

- no chance to move to left seat with Asiana and on 90% of the cases. One of the few is EK, but they only consider in case you join with tons of airline jet time, command included.
- stable career? Were, how, when? Being expat no chance anywhere, except maybe at the sand pit or of course at home.

Upgrade is unlikely. It hasn't happened here before but that's because expat f/o's are a relatively new thing. It may happen but it would probably take close to ten years!
What this is good for is steady money, interesting flying, reasonably good benefits and.....

Incheon airport is located on an island, so to get to it is going to take a little longer than it would take to travel to Gimpo for example. There are a few different options to get to Incheon, some people get a bus directly. This can take between 40mins to 1 hour plus, depending on where you live. Other people drive/get a bus/train to Gimpo then take the bus from there. This takes 35 minutes.
The standard of apartments is high. The company however are trying to locate the expats outside of the city due to the expense. By "outside of the city" I mean, 20-30 minutes from the city centre so not bad.
Like in most places, if you want a car, you buy a car. It makes life easier. Most people I know have one, it is not necessary though.

Details from anyone already working there?
Rishworse mentions a salary of 10,500$ and a accommodation.
Is that good enoug? Haven't ever been to Seoul, seems like an expensive place though!

Is there any Asiana a320 expat captains here? Could you share your impressions about your job for Asiana?
1.What is the working environment?
2. Do you fly many nights? What is the typical schedule for a month? I mean how many nights per month, how many flights per month approx., how many days off?
4. What is the accommodation like? Is it acceptable?
5. What is medical check in Korea, I mean Is it same tough as in China?
6. Interview, selection process, sim check - how tough is that, any info? What is approx. failure rate?
I'm current on A320,~ 4000 hrs PIC
