Air Costa Facts
Air Costa has hired 8 Indian Nationals with jet and turboprop experience who have all completed their type rating on Embraer 170.
They have hired a few more expats as Check Pilots/TRI/TREs.
Engineers have completed their embraer training.
Ground staff and other support staff have also been taken in.
Cabin Crew intake is going on.
Air Costa never ever considered CRJ.
They were zeroing in on Q400 but embraer gave them a fantastic option and hence the decision.
So as far as the flight deck crew requirement goes they have met what it needs for them to launch their services.
Aircraft import permit also issued for the first two E-Jets by MOCA.

Can they start operations with only 2 E jets or still have to comply with minimum 5 aircraft rule to start scheduled operations? Seriously an airline like Bahrain air starts with only 2 aircraft from Bahrain and the first destination is in Kerala whereas we have the moronic 5 year domestic operations and minimum 20 aircraft rule to start flying out of India Is it MOCA of India or middle east? No wonder ME airlines are the de facto national carrier of India.

well i suppose i cannot complain much as i work for one of them!

As per the CAR part 2 , An operator should have a fleet of minimum five aeroplanes or five multi-engine helicopters either by outright purchase or through lease. The aeroplanes shall be of maximum certified takeoff mass of more than 5,700 kg and type certified meeting the requirements of transport category aircraft acceptable to DGCA. Multi-engine helicopters shall be of maximum certified takeoff mass of more than 3180 kg and type certified meeting the requirements of transport category helicopters acceptable to DGCA. The aircraft shall be registered in India and shall hold a current Certificate of Airworthiness in Normal Passenger category. For leased aircraft, a copy of lease deed shall be filed with the DGCA. To facilitate the start of the operations, operators will be permitted to operate with one aeroplane/ helicopter and will be given one year’s time from the date of securing operator’s permit, to have the fleet size of five aircraft. Within this period of one year, the operator will be permitted to operate scheduled services if they meet all airworthiness, air safety and operational requirements for such operations, fulfill the route dispersal guidelines and all other requirements applicable to a scheduled operator....

For regional Airline they have a timeframe of 2 years to get the fleet size to 5. Moca is planning to make it 5 years....

@fernandez

Air Costa was issued a Regional Scheduled Airline Permit and hence does not have the same requirements a full scheduled airline

As per the DGCA requirements for Regional Scheduled Airline they only need
1 aircraft in the first year of operations
3 Aircraft within 2 years
5 Aircraft within 5 years

Met with one of the seniors with Embraer. Air costa is set to launch in Mid March. The Two leased Birds from ECC is ready to be ferried. They have ordered 1 ERJ 190 which will be delivered in Jan 2014. They are trying to lease 2 more birds. Launch is set with 2 Aircrafts.

Also, @blackbirdsr72 thanks for the timely update on Air Costa. Highly appreciated.
