Some facts gleaned from some uncomfortable chat on the 7th & 8th floor :

1) rk indeed had the self inflicted 2 missed approaches on one fine day.

2) KAL admin was not going to renew his contract at 60 prior to his doing
the runner.

3) admin is aware of his double dealing vis-a-vis management-expat pilot
interface.

4) admin did not take kindly to his recording of the CAN-ICN flight wrt the
2 said missed approaches.

Small wonder he planned the runner whilst leading the silly expats up the garden path.

It's funny, it's nonsensical and it's downright ridiculous...the so-called riff raffs think KAL owe them a living!

When I was there in the late 90's and early 2000's, many recruits were from bona fide air carriers and established charter operators. Then came the late 2000's we had all kind of wannabes and I knew it was time to bail out. Like they say in the stock market, when the housewives and garbage collectors start buying shares big time, it's high time you run!

So maybe it was " smart " for rk to do a runner but as the Admiral Shin pointed out, it was in poor taste putting him amongst the ranks of the riff raffs. However he could be laughing to the bank as I think KAL would have to pay the balance of his leave at his last drawn premium salary. They missed the chance to pare down his last drawn salary. So Admiral, no class or not rk beat KAL flight admin at their own dirty game!

Incident: Korean A388 at Tokyo on Jul 21st 2011, engine pod strike

It seems KAL could use a few more of the riff raff and vagabonds, garbage collector Ex-Pat pilots. At least they would keep their new airplanes shiny and keep up their safety record.

During my time in KAL years ago there were quite a number of expats who did bent metal! I may get some flak about this, some did get away without the summary sackings but their contracts were generally not renewed after their fourth year. At one stage, the expat pilots almost became a new problem rather than the solution to KAL's woes with quite a number of incidents. So let's not be so smug! The sad thing is a lot of newbies just shoot off their mouths without understanding or researching the history of expats in KAL.

As for rk, he was always dying to be management or instructor pilot no matter how ****ty the position. To throw in the towel with a runner suggests that the writing must be really painted bright red on the wall. I heard nh also resigned last year when things turned ugly and KAL has now brought in an outsider for nh's post.

Barney R.....did you just quit or did you also do a runner? A lot of contract pilots did runners and sometimes screw things up for others.

Well ... I have to agree with Wasila in most of the issues.. some like english and ATC still have to be addressed, but then again that counts for mostly all of non english asia...
I got more than 11.000 hours on 747-400 alone and I can tell you that working with KAL will be ease or hard ...all depends in where you come from and what would be your attitude for training... after been in Asia for 14 year... I can say that KAL is one of the good companies.. yes, it has it bad things... but also good ones. If you are looking to come to asia is because you need the job or the experience..... come and see for yourself... try to get a leave of absent at work while you finnish training in KAL.... then decide..
747-400 is $13.070 after paying for the insurance plus perdiem around 800 to 1000 depends on your flights 65 to 75 hours... but is more because only counts stick time..

Good luck

much lesser than the expats.

now back to the original question...
how much do the locals make ???
You can't imagine how much the locals get. maximum 2/3 of the expat's payscale.

Admiral Shin & Haejungkuk, this pretty much sums the maturity of the airline.

Message sent by acars to numerous aircraft (words to the effect)

"Asiana B744 freighter clash (sic) near CJJ recommend autoland in ..."

wotthefcuk....

And on the company notams;

"A380 ops only.... arrival not in database. If not crews must enter it manually"

Really? So in Kindergarten Air Lines crews need to be told to enter an arrival manually if it is not in the database.

"Please use caution" is the oft used phrase in company messages. Just as well I receive those messages otherwise I would not be using due caution.

QFE ops. Banned. Why -because we can't use VNAV. Solution-publish a Kpageeeee table that requires mental gymanstics and the distict possibility of a screw up (recently evidenced by two published and probably many unpublished incidents) . So now you divert to a QFE airport that doesn't have a Kpageee table..... I dont think I need to say anymore. Well thought out policy.

BTW; I hear they have decided to solve the A380 pod strike problem. They are going to remove the outer two engines. This will enable a bank angle or 16.8 degress before a wingtip strike.

It's gonna be fun. Looks like 90 ex-JAL pilots on the way.
The Koreans are freaking. As my FO said yesterday, "I'll
use every sick leave day I have, not to fly with those ****ers."
The fun & harmony better by the day.

Flew with a Korean Captain & Korean FO today. Both very stressed
about the Japanese coming to KAL. It's Great !!
If you are Japanese, have appropriate ratings for KAL, and not in a
wheelchair........PLEASE APPLY.
In doing your research about KAL, please disregard any negative
postings I may have made. Could have been in a bad mood or drunk.
Look forward to seeing you. GOOD LUCK.

I would love to see the face of a Korean instructor training a Japanese Pilot...Koreans are so racists and don't have very nice feelings toward their neighbours... or nobody for that matter...just look at how they treat each other!
