Private flying in SE Asia
Hello.
My name is Mark and I am an Australian citizen of Filipino descent travelling around Asia in June/July this year.
I've done some flying here in Australia through private flight clubs flying the Tiger Moth, Cessna 152 and Piper Warrior as well as 2 weeks of flight screening with the Australian Defence Force flying BAE System CT4-B's.
I love flying and have uncles and grand-uncles who were pilots in the Philippine Air Force.
Whilst I travel around Asia I was hoping to do some private flying in each of the countries I visit and I will already will be doing some in the Philippines.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good flying schools in Thailand, Hong Kong and Malaysia and if they take foreigners.
Thank you.
Mark

Hi Mark there r lots of Flight Academy/Club in Malaysia and the big ones are in Melaka (MFA), Langkawi, Kota Bharu(APFT) and Bintulu,Sarawak(GGIFA). Flying Clubs i knew who rent out aircrafts are in Johor Bharu(JHB) and Selangor Flying Club (in Subang).
However u need to fly with an instructor first to have him certifying to go solo and if i m not mistaken it takes 2 flights. Prices vary between RM370 to RM600 per flight.
The ones in Bernam River airfield (BRA) are private owners whom i m not sure if they are allowed to offer their aircraft commercially. Google them and make some calls.

dont know much about flying clubs in Thailand and Malaysia. But have heard that the ones in Malaysia offer really good quality of flying.
Just a small piece of advice, try contacting the schools/flying clubs before hand and attain complete knowledge about the local regulations.
if you hold a license, you would need to convert it first, check if the schools can help you issue a temporary one. also, you will have to meet the club's minimum requirements in order to be able to hire their planes.
if you opt to fly with instructor, you might need to get a special study permit from the immigration to be allowed to fly as a student.
well, if you want to know any type of info about Philippines, lemme know. I am here in Manila. Have flown in many clubs here. and also with a school in Cebu city.
am sure you will have a great time flying in Asia.
all the best!
