Was wondering why my post has been deleted? What's so wrong about disclosing the paid furlough deal at Alitalia?
It is a fact that the furloughed guys at Alitalia get 80% of their past salaries from the government social welfare system and that rounds up to about 5000$/month net for F/O's which they get paid until they sign for a new job for the next 7 years.
If they get a contract job overseas it's quite possible they won't tell the italian welfare guy so they will get a double salary: one from EVA and one from the tax payer.

Maybe this kind of info isn't welcome by someone?

All the MD 11 Alitalia pilot are working some in the new Alitalia on the A320,some in Alis the new MD11 Italian operator some others in the middle east.
I have heard that the position at EVA was for not type rated pilot.
Generally speaking I don't like people using nationality in the way you did in your previous post and even now.
What is possible for you is maybe what you will do i usually avoide to accuse people in advance.

... and talking about nationalities, here some information coming from an expat!

1. Are you assigned to a fleet, or do you have a choice between the pax. fleet and freighters? Yes...you are assigned a fleet. It basically depends on where they need manpower at the time you are hired. Though having said that...if you have a preference....they will try and accommodate.

2. Typical schedule, min. number of days off/mo? We get 8 to 9 days off in a block. Can get more days off while you are here. We fly anything from about 50 hours to 90 hours. Just depends on how you get rostered for the month. On average....well..on the MD11 fleet...I am only here about 4 days a month. I work about 14-16 (if that!) days a month...and the rest are off, reserve, etc.

3. Bases, TPE only? yes...main base here. Just works better for logistics....however...as I mentioned...on the MD11 fleet....we are here maybe 5 to 7 days a month only. Anchorage is also available as a base.

4. Appx. upgrade time; locals only or will ex-pats have an equal chance? Merit-based? Right now....upgrade is not even an option! We are talking....about 10 years on average. Might be less....but nothing before 6 to 7 years minimum. Locals do get preference....and they have a weird way of accounting for seniority. I have not got it figured out yet.....

5. Travel benefits (commuting policy), if any? Oh yes.....GREAT! Anywhere on the eva network for you and dependents. Also get ZED and ID tickets. As for commuting....umm....as long as you are where you have to be....though not appreciated. Esp as on the MD we get schedule changes all the time!

6. Overall morale of pilot group? Do you think EVA is managed well (kind of a self-answered question, after all EVA is an airline…)? Morale....well....its mixed. You have guys that have been here years and years...and are making good money. You have some that have not been here too long and are making ok money...yet when they see airlines like Korean paying $9000 a month for FOs....morale suffers. So really...I cant say much. On the whole..I would say its good-ish. As for well managed......well....I think it could be better...a lot better. Having said that.....its what is important to you. The planes here are in excellent conditions. Maintenance is superb! Organisation is fantastic. Safety is among the best. We are looked after well in terms of transport, hotel pick ups and drops, good hotels, laundry services, organised training, etc. The level of professionalism is very very good here! Eva pilots have a good reputaion amongst other airlinies. They make us study hard here and have us doing loads of home study and exams all the time. Also training is very good here.

7. Happy at EVA? Do you consider it as a stepping stone (to CX or equivalent) or could you see yourself retiring there? Yes....very happy here. Its only a stepping stone! If they paid about $2000 to $3000 more .....then I doubt anyone would actually want to leave here. They have loads of benefits and retirement options etc. There are many days off and unrestricted travel. The conditions are good, planes are new....safety record is impeccable. However....money is not enough. And there are many better options out there. However....if you want a stepping stone....in my opinion...there are not many out there that are better then Eva. You will not make too much money here....but you will get experience and training of the highest quality. You get to fly heavy jets, class cockpits and international destinations. Its a great stepping stone.

hope this will help also if it comes from an Alitalia pilot!

Hi!

$7.0 was what was advertised by contract agency....that is where that number is from.

Is it correct? Have no idea, but that is whay they posted, and that will be what the new-hires will be expecting if they are hired through that contract.

Thank you 169west! Your info was really interesting for me. I´m going to the screening for MD11 F/O on the 5th of June. Anyone has an idea of what may I expect there?

Any chance to get in contact with the expat that gave you that info. I would really appreciate!

I'll try to do my best! But I think if you ask to GPS or DPI they will give you good guidance.

Hi!

The previously listed pay scale is correct:
“Rated:
Months 1-2 $4500 USD
Months 3-4 $5400
Months 5+ $5500
Non Rated:
$3500
$5000
$5100”
Perdiem is $3.00 per “Duty Hour”....not sure how that works. Overtime over 70 hrs/month. Housing during training and in Taipei. Completion bonuses after xx months.
I think the $7.0/month was before taxes, and the above are all after Taiwanese taxes.

I AM interested, as the overall T&C are significantly better than my current job, although the pay is a bit lower. I am from the US, which has the largest number of excess pilots, hence the lowest salaries at home and the most guys flying overseas. The T&C “fairness” issue DEFINITELY depends on where you are coming from.
US Major Airlines:
US Airways (East): Months 1-12 $1800/month
Continental: Months 1-12 $2200/month
United: Months 1-12 $2300/month
American: Months 1-12 $2500/month
Delta: Months 1-12 $3800/month
Atlas Airlines, the world's largest? 747 operator:
Base pay during initial training....$0/month....perdiem only
(I consider Atlas the 4th best US airline job: DAL, FedEx, UPS, Atlas)

Oh, in case you're wondering about the “Regional” Airlines...
Mesa is a very large Regional Airline flying feed for the majors...
(turboprops to CRJ-900s, 92 aircraft)
Months 1-12 $1500/month
Months 13-24 $2000/month
DHC8 Captain, 2nd Year Pay $3000/mo.

Props?...
Great Lakes Airlines (Beech and Embraer Turboprops, 42 aircraft, flying feed for the majors)
Months 1-12 $1300/month.

Hi!

Forgot to mention that the above payscale is "after taxes", according to the Direct Personnel people:

MXGLV:
From what I know...EVA is WAY, WAY better, but it does not have the career potential that Qatar does. If you are from the ME or want to live there, then it is different. Qatar has no commuting, to start with, and the list continues...

ZIVANAI:
See my post 3 posts above yours...

The bond thing...
A three year bond will apply for both rated and non-rated pilots. Any accumulated bonus payments due will be offset against this bond payment.
What that means, I have no idea. If they want me to give them money upfront, then almost 100% sure I would not be going if they offered me the job.

Note: Eva is hiring directly off their website, so there may be no need to go through Direct Personnel...

ANY info on the company, good/bad, hiring process, training, etc., etc. is greatly welcomed. Thanx ahead of time, and have a great day!

I remember when I came to Nankan two years ago moving from Taipei city after the salary cut that I met some EVA guys telling stories about how happy they were at EVA.
But the big surprise was after two or three months all of those HAPPY EVA Expats were jumping to QATAR Airways...

In CAL at this moment QR is not the problem...it is Fly Dubay...some guys have jumped there, not mention some others going back to their countries in South America for even less salary but better working atmosphere.

But anyway...if you want to date a Chinese...EVA is tha place...and in that case you are right...EVA is better than QR.

Hi!

WHY were they going to Qatar? DEC? then QR is better.
From the ME/Qatar and want to live there? QR is better.
Want to go to a career airline w/ capt upgrade 5-10 years down the road? QR is better.

If you compare them the same:
New FO flying widebody-may not be able to in Qatar.
Schedules? EVA MUCH better.
Commute home? NOT POSSIBLE on Qatar.
Pay? I think Qatar would be better, but it depends on your family situation. Your spouse probably can't work in Qatar, but she can at home.
Treatment by mgmt, from what I read, EVA is probably better in that area.
Moving your family to base? MAYBE QR is better.

I have read ALL the info on QR, and it does not sound very nice!

Only if you are desperate consider EVA. Do not give up a descent job to work for these clowns. PY, Shine, & the 89A management group are the
"SCUM OF THE EARTH". Lies, deceit are common place. Be Forewarned.
STAY FAR FAR AWAY. ONLY THE DESPERATE SHOULD APPLY.
