Bali Private Flying

Hi, can anyone suggest somewhere i can do a few hours private flying in Bali this June? (either with or without an instructor/safety pilot)

I have a UK CPL/IR and will be there on holiday shortly. Having looked on the web ive had no luck locating an FTO or similar, all links have been for old schools that have since gone out of business!

All suggestions are welcome

Thanks in advance

Jonathan

Hi RF .. yep, they're still running. They're just about to start a new batch of students in April. Apparently, they have some arrangement with Garuda whereby Garuda offers selected students some kind of cadetship and offer of employment when they graduate. The school seems to be very well run and student accommodation is like staying at a resort from the pics I've seen.

Cheers!

Thanks guys thats great, i will give them a try. Does anyone know any others or even individuals who privately own aircraft, that would be willing to rent out for a few hours?

Ill be in the south of the island so near there would be preferable but id be willing to travel anywhere in Bali?

Thanks again.

flying in Bali

BIFA currently only has flight school certification and can only fly cadets in the program.

Sky Aviation in Lombok right next to Bali has a SR-20 and SR-22 that they can pick you up in Bali and go flying.

BIFA is still running.
It's a bank sponsored cadetship system. Applications for students to BIFA is to pass the selection by an airline (almost 100% by Garuda), passing that, you'll go to a bank financial assessment, upon approval, students pay 50% of the course fees & flight hours, the bank loans you the rest. Flunk out, and you pay the bank.

The accomodation is nice, the instructors are well paid too.

They're short of aircraft, so I doubt you'd be able to rent them out.

For aircraft rentals, Sky Aviation is probably the only one around there.

The current problem with general aviation is the flight approvals system/method, which, unless you fly under a Part 135 or 121 or is a flying school, is a total nightmare. Hence the hideous rates one would see on the net.

Flying Club Co-operating with Sky Aviation

Yes, it is expensive as plane need to re-position from Lombok to Bali. Also AVGas in Indonesia is very expensive at USD12/US Gal in that area. It is three times more than US.
The cheapest way is for you to take a local flight to Lombok and join them at the airport. Ticket (return) to Lombok is like USD100. Then you can take their standard tour.
Also, Sky Aviation is now co-operating with Indonesia Flying Club to provide flight for pilots (local or overseas). Only thing is you need to be a member of the Flying Club which is easy by paying an annual fee (small amount) and get flying. Charge is like USD350/hr including an instructor and you can take the control depending on how good you can fly. They may need you to fly a minimum hour each time and pay more for multiple landings. Nothing is free except in US.

Flying in Bali

Sky Aviation is co-operating with Indonesia Flying Club to provide their SR20 for activities of its members.
Cost is a lot cheaper and affordable. Please note AV Gas in Indonesia is USD12+/USGal depending on where you are. This is 4 times higher than in US. Flight per hour is around USD350+VAT.
If you go to join the flight in Lombok, there is no re-positioning fee as their planes are parking in their hangar in Lombok.
Try to call them and see.
