PAL news and rumours

News- saw on Channel 4 that the PAL VP of operations have confirmed they are pushing through with the purchase of 4 x B777s and 2 on lease totalling 6 aircrafts. These are to be used for Asian destinations instead of the U.S. Also present was Boeing's VP for marketing during the interview confirming the purchase.

Rumour - Korean trainees have been flying with PAL paying to get time on right seat. A guy looking for accommodation in Concorde Village near domestic enquired on a duplex and the caretaker mentioned that the Koreans living next door flies for PAL and training. Is there any truth to this ??? Is PAL really that cash strapped ?... i guess with the news that they will be laying off workers I'm not surprised.
Is this how PAL will be from now on?... a training ground for expats?

One Filipino applicant did not even push through as they were asking for training money from him.

777

1. the airport/caap is category 2...a downgrad from category 1

2. the 777 was purchased to fly west coast as addition flights to lax and sfo...but with the cat 2 downgrade, ho additional flights as per usa regulators meaning useless to purchase the 777's

3. they postponed the delivery of the next 6...

now...add it all up and see why PAL has decided to reduce its staff and even starting to terminate, suspend, cancel contracts to its existing pilots...

U WANNA GUESS...

The Koreans claiming to be training at PAL were probably just trying to impress their neighbors. There are no foreign trainees at PAL or any other local airline in the Philippines.

I believed PAL will again try to fly towards the west. Farther than BKK, towards the west. i.e. Middle East or Europe

PAL Express

It seems the contractual PAL A320 captains who have not had their contracts terminated have been notified that they will soon be joining PAL Express. That's straight from the son of one of them. But it's still a rumor until it actually happens.
