A320 FAA proficiency check...do i need one?

hi everyone,


I wanted to ask you if someone of you can kindly let me know if i need a proficiency check and if so, if there is anyone that can give me one in the east asia region.


i have been flying for a company in asia for more then 6 months now on a validation of my ATPL FAA.

i have done my last simulator check with them 1 month ago. neather the sim nor the instructor where FAA approved.

My FAA license has been revalidated by the local authorities.

i'm looking now for a new job somewhere else...shell i go for a PC on a sim approved by FAA??

if yes, do you know any place around east asia that can do so?

it all depends on what the local civil aviation wants.
according to the FAA international branch as long as you do not fly on a N registred a/c they dont care. but the day you will go back to the states you will have to do a 61.58.
now if you are flying in India (for exemple) the civil aviation for validation of your FATA want you to have :a valid ,current ,and proficient licence so in this case you need an FAA 61.58.
if you fly in vietnam you will get a full licence so your certificate need to be current at the time you apply for validation.then you can do local sim ect ....
but in this case your FAA will not be current anymore .
the only way to maintain an FAA certificate current is by doing a 61.58 with an approved TRE and Sim

Dear Sir: The Indian CAA needs to maintain the validity of the validation
under their rules. A 61.58 check is only valid under US rules, not Indian rules. We have informed the Indian CAA that they must develop a system to maintain currency under their rules for the licenses issued by them.
Though you must follow FAR Part 61 to maintain the validity of your ATP,
FAR Part 61 DOES NOT assure compliance with the rules of another State.

for my part i always keep my original certificate valid

i'm apply for a new job and if i get it it will again on a validation of my license...

its soo bloody confusing this thing...some people tell me that there is no need for me to do a test in a faa approved sim..some other say that i have to...

its a mess.

Faa Pc Check

Not quite correct.............The FAA Medical only reknews the FAA License , no further FAA checks required unless operating November aircraft then a PC on a FAA approved Sim with FAA approved Check Airman needed.
Otherwise an acceptable PC to the local authority is all that is required.followed by their PC to issue their Validation.
Did it this way for last 7yrs in 3 different countries.....Cheers.

thanks a lot for your post. it is reassuring but i'm hearing too many conflicting informations...and i really don't know what to do....actually...looks like you are right as i also got a validation of my license with a 320 type rating when a PC was due...and not done.

but can you please quote any far where what you say is stated?? or its just from your personal experience?? so far my experience is the same...with the difference that i got only one validation so far and not 3.

hope i can get the second one.

where did you work so far with the validation??

(1) A flight instructor of an Armed Force in a program for training military pilots of either—

(ii) A foreign contracting State to the Convention on International Civil Aviation.

(2) A flight instructor who is authorized to give such training by the licensing authority of a foreign contracting State to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, and the flight training is given outside the United States.

(b) A flight instructor described in paragraph (a) of this section is only authorized to give endorsements to show training given.

Came from Europe with current JAA State validation (FAA lICENSE), Indian PC with Screening done and Indian FATA Issued......

Well with the FAA anything is possible.I think if you take a video recording of your last Sim Check along with the photograph of the TRE , they should be able to clear you...

the PC check is responsibility of the company. As far as you work for a company they are responsible for maintaining you current. For instance, if you work in india with a FATA and 6 months down the road you do a PC check at CAE in Spain guess what you are still current, as long as you can provide evidence. If you do not work for an airline then this is a different issue.
Its not a initial type where you get it lets say in india but when you go back to US you have to get a ride with the feds. you are already typed and the PC form is being issued by the trainnig provider, NOT THE FAA !!!!

I am being recalled from furlough and my company requires a PC in the last 36 months on type or we take a slight pay cut for about year. If during my time on furlough I flew a contract in the UK and received a CAA check ride/pc for my FAA validation are you saying this counts for company purposes here in the U.S.? Is the 36 months mentioned due to triggering a FAA training event or is it just a company policy in which I can say I have indeed had a PC in the last 36 months....i.e. no pay cut.
