Wish it were so simple... Apparently management threw in a few un-agreed-upon items at the wire that all but scuttled any chance of acceptance. Among them were the return of ex-MAS boys at the company's discretion, reduced guaranteed hours, fleet-posting of cadets. Sorry, fellas in the sand-pit. I know no one wants to come back, but even if you did, it's the Red Bus Brigade for you!
The suspicion is that management had cold feet after the initial details were agreed upon, and the additions were a way to ensure its collapse, and hence a further delay.

Devil Deal or no deal!

MAPA office holders couldn't get to negotiate their way into management posts, so no deal! Also, ex MAS pilots have now got much more exposure and experience, so they may get some plum jobs the MAPA excos are after!

Mat Sabo,

Your post suits your username perfectly,"Mr Sabotage"!

Sold your butt under the burning middleast sun for a couple of years and you're qualified to run MAS management? Ostrich's brain between your ears?

Present MAPA guys have b@lls bigger than your head. They got the pilots unpreceedented benefits and $$. Infact, the title of this thread is dead wrong.MAPA (and all pilots) did not reject the payrise,it rejected the illogical conditions that attached with the deal.

Don't say nothing if you know nuts about it! Go stick your head back into the sand and let the sun burn where it shouldn't shine!

Mat Sabo may not be very tactful but I am quite privy to the aspirations of the excos, having worked with them and they sharing their inner thoughts in unguarded moments in happier and more carefree times. I can say that Sabo is closer to the bone than some apologists are. Nevertheless, do enjoy the crumbs that fall our way as those so call big ballers manoeuvre in their joget with the management.

MAPA did not reject any pay rise.

What was rejected was the conditions attached, which were grossly unfair to any pilot in the company. It wasn't the exco that rejected the conditions, but by all the members (200+ vs 0) present at an EGM called to discuss the offer.

Indeed lesenterbang, just heard from my ex colleagues.

No wonder the members rejected the offer. Some of the conditions attached were tantamount to lunacy!

One that sticks to my mind were 'promotion is at the whims & fancy of the company'. Guess now the company will reward the brown nosers & disregard the seniority list.

Whatever it is guys, I am just glad I am out of that circus.Guess it doesn't matter who they put up there to head the pilots, they will always try to backstab their brethren ..... hmm what's new?

Seniority list

Well the seniority list is a double edge sword........keeps the deadwood fully entrenched and the company frightens pilots into thinking that if they leave the mothership, all is lost. On the other hand, it ensures that brown nosers do not get to be promoted or upgraded at company's whims and fancies. However when and if the pilot community and company both strive for meritocracy, then the seniority system will be detrimental to development of good and durable talent in MAS.

To Sabo, boltak.....facts are fact; it's MAPA members who threw out the deal.

However I do share your reservations wrt the MAPA leadership.......I too had glimpses into their most inner thoughts of grandeur when I flew with them years ago. Some were even silent cheerleaders during the camel 's putsch in the mid 90's!

Facts are facts........MAS & MAPA exist in bolehland; anything can happen!

Good on MAPA members to reject the offer; the ball is now on the managements court. However with the present fuel prices and airlines furloughing crew in the US, the pilot market will again be flooded. Our bargaining power is bound to be diminished.

The pay increment are very little. How can 737 Captain in MAS get a lot less then 320 Captain in AK? Bravo MAPA!

Either you have a very short memory or you choose to ignore previous MAS management actions. As late as the late 90s MAS disregarded the seniority list ( MAPA hardly protesting, in fact MAPA acceded readily ), promoted junior ass lickers to the B744 bypassing more deserving seniors. What was even more shocking was that several of the juniors who bypassed their seniors had aircraft impact incident records....wing tip contacts, shutting down good engine, etc. So even with this rejection of the present MAS management offer, the brown nosers within/without MAPA will still get upgraded and promoted.

In the mid 90's the then MAPA pres colluded with RAT to bypass more senior B737 skippers and promote their blue-eyed boys to the A330s...I was an F/O on the B737 then and during a trip to the office to hand in a 2 week MC when I couldn't believe my ears overhearing this blatantly discussed; the two snakes probably thought I was a bodoh office boy so they let down their guard and opened their mouth with reckless abandon!
I called some of the affected skippers to warn them but despite their protest, it was a done deal between MAPA and RAT.......the DFO then datuk K was like our present PM, sleeping and " not knowing ".
I lost my faith in MAPA from that day.........history repeated itself again in 1997 when again deserving skippers were bypassed for the B744 as related by Tongkang.
So when I became skipper, I voted with my feet for the sandpit. Come on guys, like someone said...do enjoy the fallen crumbs that come your way but have no illusions about your " great ' leaders.
