Airfreight drop declines EVA's profits

31-Aug-2007 : EVA Airways has posted a wider loss in the second quarter because of a decline in airfreight demand.

Net loss was $1.37 billion Taiwanese dollars in the three months ended 30 June, compared with $1.07 billion a year earlier.

Taiwan’s airports handled 7.2 per cent less cargo in the first half. With restricted rights Taiwanese carriers are only able to operate a limited number of flights to the mainland. Air cargo has fallen in Taiwan because of a shift in production to the mainland.

Interesting times ahead!
