Bonus

The bonus was always split, some in July and some in December, thirteenth month in January, if applicable.

Not entirely true..it was according to the old ALPA-S agreement, but the new agreement (2006) stated that it would all be paid in July...the new scheme may be just applicable to Cargo and it is designed to stave off the potential mass exodus which is anticipated!!

Over-60 pilots?

Is Singapore hiring any age-60 pilots?

ronbynite,
Yes. But I believe you have to be type rated as SIA do not provide any type training for guys who have less than 3 years to retirement. At the moment SIA is letting pilots fly till age 62 (stand to be corrected).

With a 10% enforced pay cut and no guarantees after 62, why would anyone take the gamble when other operators will guarantee full pay to age 65?

age 60

SIA most certainly is not keeping pilots beyond 60 let alone hiring them. The union has been made an offer which has yet to be negotiated and probably wont come to any conclusion for as long as SIA is over staffed with pilots on the 744. Looks like that is going to be the case for around a year.
SIA Cargo on the other hand is taking pilots over 60 from mainline on local terms only with about 2.5% extra basic pay for every 2 years of experience on the 744..

07 bonus

From VP Flt Ops, during the flt ops dept get together, it should be 4.89 months. The bonus will be paid into your July's pay, and it will be paid in full.

Profit Share + ?

There are a few people banking (no pun intended) on the profit share being paid in full in July - because they need it to pay their income tax bills due shortly afterwards.

An extra months pay on top would be a sensible goodwill gesture that should be both appreciated and reciprocated by all.

Like you say New Freighter, "Fingers crossed."

When I was in Singapore I used to pay my annual tax bill in arrears by monthly instalments, is this not allowed anymore?

Yes, it still is. Unfortunately the bills (first full year for many) are coinciding with tenancy renewals in a lot of cases and rentals are increasing as much as $2000 a month.

CDRW Clearly a little bit of irony flies right over your head. Lighten up a bit is my advice.

Fiscal Responsibility / Profit Sharing

It's a two edged sword. Just as the company has a responsibility to uphold a system that supports their advertised $7,000/month PPA, we as expat employees have a responsibility for our own finances. The company has no control over local rent increases. We had a choice when joining (knowing the contract is 5 years) to negotiate as long a rental lease as possible to protect ourselves against spikes in the market. Most landlords welcome 2+ year leases and the added benefit; the longer the lease, the lower the monthly rate.

Regarding profit sharing: to count on that every year to pay one's bills is irresponsible. Everyone knows that a profit sharing check is meant to satisfy a wife's NEEDS!

I agree with PQ to a point. But if the company would honour their own advertising and provide approximately $7k pcm ppa, most people would be able to manage their finances and we wouldn't need to publicise the issue on pprune.

Money that some people had set aside to deal with tax is now going to be 100% swallowed up in increased rentals.

The situation may actually resolve itself. Come July 7th there might be $7k pcm ppa for those of us still here!

S$7000 As Advertised

come july i wonder whats gonna happen.

leave alone flight rosters are in total mess inspite of having a group advising to fine tune the rosters have resulted in no improvements as the rostering staff just do what them have been doing. at it just in a mess!!!!!!!!!!!

did any of you guys read the papers and see the news spot of the ongoind pay dispute between ALPA-S and the management. this is a classic of how demeaning one pilot could go against a fellow flyer.

SIA is getting frustrated as market forces are working against and encroaching inwards to its comfort zone.

apply as a LIP/SUC/SUF at least your rosters will improve and also this is cheap labour.

Pot Calling the Kettle Black

"this is a classic of how demeaning one pilot could go against a fellow flyer."

That's very rich CJ, considering you've been referring to the mainline colleagues as 'RATS' , for the past few months !

I wonder if you will be just holding the door 'open' in July ?

CJ brought up the ongoing A380 pay dispute currently in the Singapore courts. I can't believe none of you SQers have reacted in these august pages to SIA management's claim, as reported in Channel News Asia, that, as fewer than 1 per cent of pilots have quit during the last six years, the company must be paying competitive wages!!
Are you guys taking this guff lying down??!?

So where does one turn to complain in Singapore? The paper is controlled by the gov, ie., Tamasek., which owns SIA. Take your chances......
