Airbus pilots (340,330,320) got a joint meeting first week of July with JJB.

I think they want to thank them for helping out with the redundancy problem of PAL. They cost so much on the overhead expenses that they are doing the company a favor by moving out.

all reserves activated. 6 A320 flights unmanned today. 14 guys about to set sail across the south china sea in the next two months. this is just the beginning of the new exodus.

Newbie question: Question on PAL regulatory compliance

The US FAA rates Philippine carriers as Cat 2 because of noncompliance with minimum safety standards - is this because the Philippine regulators (which interact with the FAA) can't verify the existing records of the airlines which would otherwise indicate their compliance, OR is it because the carriers, in this case PAL, are actually noncompliant?

The exodus of aircrew discussed in this thread suggests the latter - but I am new to the industry - any ideas from the graybeards out there?

Yes, I agree with that! That would be something that PAL Av Cadets would be pursuing.. a slot in the A320.

But it would cost PAL to get these guys A320 type ratings!

Am I correct? I think the Clark Av cadets will have an edge of this if ever PAL decides to get MPL cadets like in 5J (a friend of mine said that they're doing a great job as FOs there).

Really? I am not sure about that, maybe you can verify with the 5J line pilots re-MPL's performance in the line..

CA cadets are just gaining their experience; soon, they will feature highly in both airlines: Commanders of the future, who were trained correctly.

it's always difficult to judge a group. as expected in any skills-based environment, there are MPL cadets who performed better than the typical 1500-hour CPL holder, while others were lagging behind. however from an airline point of view, it's difficult to ignore that the MPL cadets already have A320 type rating, which undoubtedly costs a lot.

Having said that i think PAL Av cadets still have the edge as the MPL requires a total shift in pilot training, something which frankly PAL Training pilots don't want to embrace at this point. if they wanted to, they would have taken MPL guys a long time ago. for me, i do hope the PAL Av guys can get in first as some have been waiting for so long.

PAL should realize that there is life outside PAL. As showed by others who opted to leave PAL. These is not the Eighties where you are the sole airline in the Phils. These is the Year 2000 where alot of airline has been establish and to the extend has been your better competitor.

The fact is that these guys will be Captains on an A320 while you are still kicking around Pasay trying to fly an BN2. They may not know what 2 dots on either side of the EHSI stands for, but they sure know what Flex 52, SRS RWY is!

For those that have finally seen the light, Congratulations on your new job! The grass is really greener on this side of the fence. The money too.

Ive flown with at least 4 mpl's this july. two on regional and two on domestic flights with 4legs each. and yes , i let them take-off/land , and do the usual Pilot-flying duties. If i put a blindfold over my eyes i wouldnt distinguish them from a regular f/o. as a matter of fact, i'd dare say that at least all 4 of them are better than some regular f/o's. But to say that they would be captains soon, man...what are you smoking? Mosquito Coil?

These guys can only fly Airbus 320's bro, they learned to fly on a SIMULATOR, the only semblance to an airplane they flew is a defunct Alpha whose top speed is slower than a Subaru WRX. the furthest cross-country they've flown is San Fernando, La Union for Cripe's sake. The BN2 Pilot is the REAL Pilot. Put both of them behind a Real airplane...say a Baron or a Cessna 206, let's see who the PILOT is.

You've been misinformed. The FAA IASA audit looks at the ability of the CAAP whether they are capable and competent to regulate civil aviation industry in the Philippines, sadly many of them at CAAP dont know what their doing. PAL was not the reason behind the Cat 2 it was the Philippine Government who is to blame.

Under normal conditions,yes...because during flight, AP is engaged, and everything is is the box...as PNF, of course they can...But as Captain...I cross my fingers.....One MPL was asked by the Captain he was flying with if he can fly the aircraft if he gets incapacitated....well, at least he was honest to say that he was doubtful if he can land he bird alone....

PR 228, 732, 110 and 597 unmanned today.

the floodgates have opened and the goliath is on his knees but badioLAX is still in neverland strutting like a peacock. realty check for LT and his clowns, slavery does not work in the free world. trying to pull that air philippines transfer was a very big mistake. now you are paying for it dearly.

A330 was forced to fly PR110 last minute LAST NIGHT... 1 BCD flight cancelled today... Tomorrow 18 Capts and 11 FOs still unmanned flights... most pilots reached 100 hours... BB even had the guts to threaten the Pilots leaving that they would be issued hold departure order from immigration...his exact words-SINO PA MGA AALIS? BAKA GUSTO NILANG PA HOLD KO SILA SA IMMIGRATION?! tsk tsk!!

Think this is bad? It's only going to get worse this August, as some of the guys who are leaving still have a month's worth of schedule printed up.

Management had an emergency meeting yesterday, they are supposedly trying to get tax cuts for the pilot's productivity pay to encourage them from staying.
