thanks powerstall and fish and chips for your inputs!

this goes out to everyone out there. your comments are very much welcome...

1) just like to ask what's it like to be in the gen av scene (eg. how often does one get to fly, payscale, benefits, etc)?

2) what are the flying jobs associated in gen av?

3) any idea on what's the turnover rate of gen av pilots moving to the airlines (eg. what's the current pilot demand)?

4) on average, how often do airlines hire new pilots? (what could be the longest hiring gap/freeze?)

5) given the constant stream of newly grad pilots from avschools, are there plenty of flying opportunities in the gen av to accommodate low time pilots?

6) on average, how long would it take for a newly grad pilot to make it to the airlines (assuming one takes the gen av track)?

many thanks!

1. In the Gen Av scene, it really depends on what type of operations the company has. There are flying schools, fish runners, cargo, charter and VIP transport. The pay scale varies, some are very well compensated and some are paid by the hour. The most active are the fish runners if you're in it for the time. The best is the VIP/Charter operators. It can be turbo prop or a small jet. Equipment wise.

2. Check answer no. 1

3. The last mass hiring was done sometime late 2007, up to 2008. When two new equipments were introduced in manila, the Q300/Q400 and the ATR 72's.

4. Hiring depends on the needs of the company, supply and demand. As of now, some have reached their need for pilots, and some are retrenching. It's gonna take sometime for the next mass hiring. Maybe years.

5. No. the growth of the Gen Av is quite slow maybe nil. And it's a game of connections and attitude.

6. Average would be 4-7 years maybe more. some made it only within 2 years, some have taken as long as 10. Unless otherwise.

others may have different views.... again just my two cents.

Hope it helps. Keep it safe!

hi everyone! I'm new in this forum and very much interested in taking a career in aviation. I just wanted to clarify some things...

Would you guys know what are the advantages of getting into pal av school vis-a-vis other aviation schools? How competitive is it to get into pal av and is it true that you need to have a backer (or know someone inside) in order to get accepted? What are my chances of getting into the airlines if I'm not from pal av? Do you know any good flight schools aside from pal?

If I were to graduate from av school, what would be the best track to gain flying hours? How's the current employment opportunities in our aviation market (are there a lot of unemployed pilots?) How's the current rate of pinoy pilots moving to foreign carriers?

Would you consider being a pilot a lucrative career? (like what are the opportunities present?).

I'm sorry if I have a lot of questions. Thanks!

Pinoy pilots restricted in China

Forget china. My source tell me Pinoy pilots restricted (not accepted) in China. Is this handywork of LT?
For further details inquire to pilot outsourcing agent companies or directly to airlines.
Goodluck to everybody.

information

some co. in china known for not honoring contract. they can change anything at their convenience (sounds familiar). my american source said they were hired in china. during training they were told each week that there is change to agreed contract salary & work condition. whole group left!!
i inquire to outsourcing co. about pinoy pilot status in china. they said detail is very vague but airline tell them holder pinoy passport is security risk in china!!
middle east or vietnam is place to go.
if you stay in PAL more scenarios coming. business model of pal is not working. only 1 scenario in your career before you reach 60 yrs & retirement promised by Julie is gone with the wind. its a big gamble

20 Airbus A320 for Airphil!!

They do have plans to transfer 6 A320s to Airphil by 2011 while their 2nd press release to the pilots only indicates 5.

Air Philippines to buy 20 new airplanes over next four years

Air Phil Airlines has not been flying to that location after the strike. Let's see him try to convince himself.

It's discomforting to be on Gate 1and pilots from other divisions asking the 320 guys what's up or what they're plans are. It really is every man for himself now. The strike did accomplish something for the man.

Gents and Ladies,

I don't fully understand something which is akin to this thread, and that is, how are we all discussing movement amongst the Far Eastern airlines, which includes PAL. I was under the impression that PAL would not hire ANYONE who was not a Filipino citizen? Or is that just badly communicated, and actually refers to their own Ab Initio courses? Any help would help!

It may well be that I have to relocate to the Philippines in the coming months, so, this is a pretty major item for me... so, any info would be gratefully received...

Thanks!

SJ

PAL A320 pilots are on the move. Within the last ten days or so one left for HK Airlines and another for Asiana. Rumors (which are becoming more reliable) have it that another 5 are set to go any time now.

Pilots who have never previously considered working abroad were spotted at the Marriott in business attire late last week.

Fresh A330 captains were asked at their PAQB if they were willing to fly for Airphil Express.

The word is the Marcoses want their airline back and Dr. Tan is making sure they'll get nothing more than the shell.

You don't need to be a rat to know your ship is sinking.

Like they say in the old westerns: Better git while the gittin's good!

Exodus again !!!!

Let me stir the pot once again Gentlemen !

Congratulations to all who made it through the screening process, and most of the people related to PAL knows where.

All the best on your careers ! For you people, PAL has been home and youve been loyal, but sadly for your Bosses you're all just a bunch of dispensable beings. Admit or not, history has told that same story over and over again.

Goodluck to the 320 pilots eyeing for better future than PAL ! Mabuhay kayo !

And this tongue is for PAL and your dear chairman.
