SIA Interviews in India ( AUGUST 04)
Hi , has anyone got calls for the interviews in response to the advert June 04 in Indian Newspapers for the interviews to be held , in New delhi on the 4th and 16th in chennai ? If so what kind of hours do you have and any idea where SIA tend to place you after training ? In the advert it says placements either in Silk Air , SIA or SIA Cargo leaving out TIGER !! Read on another post in this forum that they were looking for guys from india to fly in tiger ...any truth here ? All opinions , views and advice are welcome . Thanks once again .

The bottom line is that SIA is looking for people who will cost less.
They seem to be hell-bent in not paying over $15000 Sin pm to the highest paid driver. The work is tough and Singapore is an expensive but safe place to reside. The other word of caution in the far east is that contracts mean nothing. They change with the wind and could leave you at a lurch.
The race in SIA is to squeeze till you bite, then operate at that level to max their returns.
Also at present, the airline is being micromanaged by the government, so the SQ management are just running the office boy stuff daily. Good Luck

Hi rdr , thanks for the reply, will keep it in mind , I would also like to hear from the local F/O's in SIA as to what they think of the current work conditions. Alot of expats reply that the conditions are not conducive to working . In any case for any Indian guys looking at attending the interview , I believe from the grapevine , that they have called close to 1500 people..... begining from CPL/IR ( No Multi ) upwards to ALTP with Mil Jet experience. I am curious as to what they are actually looking for ? Anyone ... ??

SIA knows India is full of highly qualified pilots sitting at home, and it only means 1 thing, pay for the Type Rating and buy the job.

Also, historically, the countries policy has been to underpay anyone from the subcontinent. From manual/construction workers to cabin attendants. Many of the ca's have left after realising that all others were getting a better deal than them from the locals to expats. So beware.

Well , that was a shock out of the blue ronnie .... are u sure that they are looking for people to put money up front for a type rating ?? It doesnt make sense , cause , most of the experienced guys , are either with Alliance Air , Jet or Sahara and would already have put up 10 to 1400000 ( INR ) , for the type ratings on the CRJ or the ATR . I also heard that Jet have just recently inducted a batch which paid for their endorsements on the boeing and have agreed in principal to being paid ATR F/O salaries that too on contract ? How different then is Jet to SIA ? Same pay discrimination ..... leaves one wondering where all this one will end....

Just for what it is worth, SIA have not previously required anyone to pay for their own rating, that I know of, but they do impose and if necessary enforce a large training bond. For the 744 it used to be S$150,000 over five years, plus you had to provide a bank guarantee of S$65,000 accessible through a bank with a branch in Singapore. You don't have to pay the bond unless you leave before you have given them five years on the line, fully qualified. At the end of five years that bond is complete and the bank guarantee is released back to you.
As for paying CC different rates that is true but it works both ways. The Japanese CC that work for SIA get paid considerably more than the Singaporean ones and that is a bone of contention too.

You answered it your self. If pilots in India are paying up front large amounts for a job, to be paid in INR, imagine what they will do if they got paid in S$ ???? You know the lure of the $$$ well enough living in India. Infact Jet gets all its Pilot managment "SKILLS" from CX & SQ they have worst records in Pilot n' Managmnet relations, go figure ! If any one has worked for 9W will agree...

Hi , they advertised for Indian citizens , with a basic CPL and frozen ATPL for the cadet pilots post.....Multi experience is considered an advantage.

Hi , any Indians out there , who have attended the SIA interviews in Delhi recently....I am looking for feed back as I have the interview later this month down south.....what did they ask you ? I never saw that advert in Bombay, whats your TT, Indian ATPL? I went recently to DGCA to get my SCPL, but was told it has been DGCA has stoped issuing it, only ATPL will be issued.

Well sorry you did not see it ronnie , the ads where in both the Indian Express and the Hindu on the 16th Of june, they are still available online to look at on the SIA website. They have called people with just basic indian CPL's to people with Military Jet exp an current ALTP's , so its kinda varied. They are interested in taking about 50 from what I hear. These are just preliminaries in india , short listed guys will be called to singapore for 2 more interviews and then offered the job i guess if they are satisfied.

after interview
Hi just an update to let you know how this went... simple , they verified documents , then one capt and one phsycotherapist .... just finding out who you are and one or two tech questions... stated that since I was not a Frozen ATPL holder , I could have to go through the full CPL course in Aus or I could be fitted in anywhere where they see fit according to the regulating body. They said we should get to know in 2 weeks ,is successful , they call you to s'pore to undergo , phsyco motor test , situational awarness test , tea party and then the interview... roughly 4 days.
Can one please tell me what the phsyco motor and situational tests are and what the interview and tea party wil be like ?
