China; the new market for expats
All the 'name' agencies are there or arriving. Two airlines already have expats with at least two others signifying their intent to employ expats, with many others watching with keen interest. Some airlines are even approaching agencies who happen to be recently ensconced. It's all go for lots of jobs in China in the near future, as it is THE country with the most potential for expansion in aviation in Asia. But be warned; living in China is not like living in HKG, SIN or TYO and salaries are yet to reach levels previously associated with expat pay. With present salaries being offered, if pilot numbers and agency numbers reach critical mass in China, it will affect expat salaries in Asia in general.

I imagine the influx of expats might help RAISE the salaries of the Chinese, Ivan.
As you said, "living in China is not like living in HKG, SIN or TYO" - the cost of living is a fraction of what it is in those cities.
With the Baby Boomer generation retirements about to make a BIG impact over the next 3-7 years, I think that might explain why airlines are trying to push salaries down at the moment.
We are already seeing pilots leaving lesser paid jobs, to go to companies offering more.
As the looming shortage increases, there is only one way companies are going to be able to retain/attract pilots.
Realistically speaking, only a few years ago, how much were Chinese offering expats who wanted to fly there? USD1500/per month?
It's ALREADY increased to 3 or 4 times that with the expansion of existing carriers and the growth of new ones - and the retirements haven't begun to cut in yet.
