INDIA OCI HELP
Hello Guys,
I am an FO based in Europe. I currently fly the A320 family a/c. I am Indian born but European citizen, however I have an OCI. I wish to come to India to work there (family reasons I am left with no choice atm). I have approx over 500 hours on type and also 400 hours on previous jet a/c but still frozen ATPL. As I need 1500 tt. I see for example Indigo is advertising FO for as little as 200 hours. Can I with 500 hours on type get an Indian DGCA licence. What is the process? Or do I have to wait until getting an ATPL? I do make regular calls but I hear nothing. Anyone who's done this journey or knows about it I would hugely appreciate it. Thank you, Safety_ |
Hi
I am an OCI as well with a Canadian Citizenship. But have only CPL and am converting my FAA CPL to DGCA CPL. It's a very lengthy process. There is a lot of paperwork involved. Since you have FO hours, it might help you here. Look at getting your computer number first for the exams. Good Luck |
The process for converting to DGCA is a lengthy one, since we are all not Indian Nationals we must get a security clearance first in order to apply for the computer number. I would also suggest doing the medical when you can, as that takes longer than it does in Europe

Thanks Thanks |
I am in the process of converting. I am still waiting for my security clearance to go through to get the computer number.
Mbhon: It is a lengthy process to go about the security clearance. I would recommend talking to a flight school in India and they can help you with the process. |

Thanks k9717 and rubikscube1348
Have gotten the equivalence cert from AIU. Talked to a flying school (as mentioned above) and the CFI mentioned for the security clearance it will faster if I have an Aadhar Card. |

We are on the same boat then. I have been waiting since March to get mine. They did a background check on me in June but still waiting for an update. In the mean time I am trying to get my RTR exam done.

I dont think you need to do an RTR exam if you already have a foreign RTR, then you can just convert it directly.
Btw, when did you apply for your computer number. And have you gotten any updates from DGCA. |

Thank you, Safety_ @Safety: You can apply for the DGCA CPL on the bases of your current CPL but it will better if you get your ATPL and then convert (which is the process I am in). Because the frozen ATPL will not be converted in India. Its a process, so be prepared mentally as well. And be sure that the aircrafts that you have on your licence are available in India (apart from the A320, e.g like the C172 PA34) incase you need to do a few hours at a flying school in India. You can apply to Indigo with your hours on the 320 but after you get you licence converted. |

I don't have a foreign RTR. FAA doesn't have the RTR system, hence am giving the exams here.

Hey, I applied back in March. In June had received a background check by officials who then sent my documents to some other bureau of security. But after that haven't received anything.

The process for applying is not difficult but there is no time line as to when he will receive his clearance. I applied 9 months ago and am still waiting for clearance from one dept. Your file goes to five major dept. who do a background check and then issue you the computer number. Once it is sent by the DGCA, it is a waiting game because all DGCA can do send reminders but it is upto the depts. to complete your clearance. There is no proper as to when they will receive the clearances. I have heard of people waiting for upto 2 years and still no response. Its a very pathetic system and a waste of time if not done right. I have already missed 3 exam attempts and probably the 4th as well. I am now heading back and will have to find gig. So I would suggest to get the clearance before CPL or wait. Let me know if you have any questions. |
UPDATE
Hi So after a exactly a year, I received my computer number. I just gave my first attempt and hopefully should have no other issues later on. I had to really push DGCA and visited their head office in Safdarjung to get it. Finally the good news arrived. So if anyone is having troubles, do visit DGCA office and knock on their doors to get it. If you have any other questions, feel free to message me. |
