Cathay Pacific Interview Q&A 2012
 
Hey folks,

I have gone through a lot of interview questions that some of you have posted on several threads in here [thank you for that]. I'd like to ask those who will interview soon including those who have interviewed so far in 2012 to please post any question(s) that you remember and the answer(s) if you know it(them). Thanks for taking your time and I really appreciate it.

Would you please leave the obvious aside? I'm not really interested in your opinion about the pay or your disgruntled attitude about CX. If you're not gonna help with the thread just keep it to yourself please!

Like I mentioned before, I WENT through other threads but I'm looking for new input, recent interviews preferably taken in EU or US.

like i said.. those threads are the most updated ones (some ppl posted questions from within half a year covering all the stages)... most ppl just post there after their interviews, so i am just trying to save you time. you can either believe me or keep waiting.. your choice.. good luck:ok:

airgent: You think that was my opinion? I actually got the question if I knew what the allowance at FTA was and later on the pay at CX, and if I would have any problem living on that money. It's no joke man.
They want clever people for obvious reasons but their problem is that someone clever would never sign such a poor deal.

I have hard time believing they literally asked you that question during the interview. So did you accept or turn down the offer?

What is bad about the pay?
 
Can someone please explain whats bad about the pay once you get a job as a second officer. This comes from the website "A Second Officer's starting salary package is around HKD45,000 per month" which converts to 6,000 Australian Dollars. This means if the pay is steady an annual wage of 70,000 Australian dollars which I would say is reasonable considering the free training. Have I missed something :confused:

I'm trying to figure out why people are still signing up when the SOs are being paid peanuts and not logging any meaningful time while being an order-taker. Is that what pilots have become?

I just went thru the Stage 1 interview in SFO. The questions banks in this thread are a great starting point for the face-to-face and technical quiz. I also used "Handling the Big Jets" by Davies (old but good), Jeppeson's Aviation weather book, Aerodynamics for Naval Aviatiors, and Everything explained for the Professional Pilot by Lengel.

Also some came up with digital flash cards that were a HUGE help (although 5% are incorrect): iFlipr

For the techincal quiz - you have 45 minutes to get thru 40 questions. All pretty basic stuff and NO calculator. US pilots, go over conversions to the metic conversions.

For the Face-to-Face it's half HR and half more technical. As I said above look at the questions mentioned in this thread as well as the flash cards to prep.
One question that threw me was, "What is meant by the CFM56 is flat rated at ISA +15?"

The Abstract Reasoning test takes 45 min total and consists of 8 different designs and you have to choose the ninth that fits. Don't study too hard for this.

Last thing, don't go into this with Rose tinted glasses on. You need to compare Cathay to your local airline industry. Do your homework before deciding if they are the best fit for you. You have to be able to answer yes to: "Can I leave in Hong Kong for the next 10+ years?"
