Has the Short Course for CPL/F-ATPL been approve yet?

As mention in the title, has this short course been approve by cathay flight operation yet for those with CPL Me/IR with F-ATPL?

Will be good instead of starting from scratch the usual 14 months course in FTA for those zero hours people.

SloppyJoe 12th Mar 2010 07:51

I think it is more a case of the HKCAD approving it rather than flt ops.

Bizzle284 13th Mar 2010 05:08

Interesting

I was wondering the same thing. I really hope it is approved by CAD or they approve it soon...while I'm interviewing. 14months in Australia would be nice, but I don't want to redo commercial manuevers HaHa. But if I have to, I definitely will :ok:

SAS-A321 20th Mar 2010 14:08

I have heard a rumour that it is gonna start in August.

Dakotablue 22nd Mar 2010 12:04

Have you fellas already submitted your application via the cadet pilot route?

airplaneridesrfun 22nd Mar 2010 14:48

what a waste. a bunch of CX employees talking to themselves... and maybe one seriously delusional individual considering CX. I would encourage you to read the fragrant harbor forum to see how guys really like it - especially if you are moving to another country! Is it worth giving up the blue sky, pleasant mates, and good food to come to Hong Kong? probably not, and certainly not through any semblance of this cadet program.

Is it worth giving up the blue sky, pleasant mates, and good food to come to Hong Kong?
I'd be happy to swap the blue sky, pleasant mates and good food, for smoggy skies, pleasant mates and good food.

airplaneridesrfun 23rd Mar 2010 02:11

Well, there is good food in HK, but it is very expensive; twice as much or more than what you would pay in any other civilized country.

ReverseFlight 24th Mar 2010 00:04

Sorry I have to butt in, aprrf, there are a lot of local establishments where food is excellent but cheap compared to many "civilized" countries. Do you dine at the Four Seasons every day ? :ugh:

Dakotablue 24th Mar 2010 05:59

Can we get back on topic? Check out openrice.com for reviews and prices on eating out in HK.

"Will be good instead of starting from scratch the usual 14 months course in FTA for those zero hours people."

Quite the opposite, minimal people are starting now with zero hours, you would be surprised the number of hours a lot of people have.

Macgyver 24th Mar 2010 14:03

Just to confirm, this new "program" would not have housing allowance then, and the training would be the same as the SOs used to have a few years back?

I applied years ago for SO, never called. 3500hrs, 1500 jet, 2800 multi. I know there's lots of guys waiting for a course too.

K3nnyboy 25th Mar 2010 01:06

does anyone know if there's gonna be any hours requirement?? Does it apply to CPL + ME-CIR with 250 hours?

Dakotablue 25th Mar 2010 03:12

Yes there will be an hours requirement and yes you'll need a CPL ME/IR. Don't quote me, but I've been informed it's 300hrs.

betpump5 6th Apr 2010 15:12

So after a 1 and a half month's break from pprune (thank God) this broken record is still playing?

Like I told GTC who was the first clown to mention this on the public forum regarding a "Short Course" that he heard was in the pipeline, it isn't happening anytime soon.

aocrew 9th Apr 2010 15:29

hi betpump,

It is not happening soon, BUT it will HAPPEN.It is just waiting for the approval by HKCAD and will be ready max by august 2010.Some of my mates with CPL who recently went for the international cadet selection has been told by the interviewer that there will be a short course ( 6 months ) to convert to a HK CPL license. Minimum requirement is a CPL with multi engine instrument rating with Frozen ATPL and a minimum of 200 hour,

T-Mass 14th Apr 2010 20:34

short course approved, first class planned for early december.

sioux115 14th Apr 2010 21:11

=

Are you applying? Sure beats waiting until 2012.
Except for the lack of T&C's.

T-Mass 14th Apr 2010 22:53

i've toyed around with the idea yes. though at 35 with family, and 3+years of airline experience, i'm hesitant. it is obvious the lack of housing allowance is just about a deal breaker.

but, considering what i make now swinging gear at a u.s. regional, an SO pay would be a definite boost. second boost would be the career potential at cathay compared to the sh!t outlook i have now (by the time my time comes to upgrade, i might not have a company to work for; but that i guess applies to any u.s. airline...). so the trick question is, will it be worth the inevitable financial burden, to try to survive in HKG for the first 5-6 years, so that you have a shot at a potentially "better" career compared to what you have going on now? note: i didn't say "great", "nice", or "well-paying" career, since we all know that ship sailed long time ago.

this can be a great career but unfortunately only for select few. i'm still trying to figure out how to be part of that group.

Dakotablue 14th Apr 2010 23:26

T-Mass,

Did you get confirmation from Monica in HR?
