Result of ICAO english test
 

Hi all,

We all know CX have changed the policy to make the ICAO test before stage 2 of CPP. Just wonder how long it takes to get the result of the english test. And, wots gonna happen if fail the test?

yES , they did mention some form of an English test for my interview but thats the least of my worry .

, it is a scoring system which they will assess by a level system (1-6) . I think it would be one of the more critical stage of the interview, so if you score really low then I would think that you might not get thru !

When did you do you test? I did mine yesterday
Cuz last year the candidates who fail the test could just simply resit it, but i am not sure about this year

I believe you need to obtain a 4 in order to proceed with the application process.

If you get a 6, you never have to sit the test again

If you get a 5, you have to re-sit in 5-6 years

If you get a 4, you have to re-sit in 3

yeh, thats wot the instructor said, need to get lv 4 to get pass
but i heard they changed the policy that they wont tell you anythin about your result but will tell you whether you pass it thru to the next stage, Stage2

i saw that too, but i think its just an ad from a company to encourage you to attend their ICAO Eng course:confused:

i have no idea really, be it an ad or not, shouldn't bother us. there's THE test and there's re-sit, and a pre-sit for the re-sit anyway, so i won't go spending money just yet.

We're only offering this course in Hong Kong, so it might not be suitable for you if you are attending an interview in the UK. However, if you are in Hong Kong and want a well-structured ICAO English course to help you surpass the assessor's requirements then we can help. It seems that old candidates can pass with level 4 grades, but new (after April 2009) applicants are supposed to get level 5. The situation may be different outside Hong Kong though, or indeed have changed since I was given this information.

Regardless, you should aim for level 5 because level 4 isn't that high. It's the bare minimum standard for flying across international borders. The idea is that your English will improve through immersion as you progress with your training. It's inevitable that one day ICAO will raise the minimum standard to level 5 but in the interim some member states are having a very hard time trying to achieve level 4. Having said that ICAO level 5 is quite difficult to achieve in Hong Kong if you don't have the opportunity to practice speaking in English as part of your everyday life.

One thing that you can do is start to prepare early - so many Hong Kong people rush through their preparation and don't realise the importance of English for aviation. So yes, I encourage CPP candidates in Hong Kong to take our courses. True, we're a business but we really want to see you guys start aviation careers. Our students are our best advertisements. If you are not sure about your current level, you can always see me for a friendly chat. We can also provide independent testing and a realistic time frame for achieving your goal.

And it's not just about cramming for a test either - learning English takes time and there is no "magic pill" that will help you reach level 5 overnight. We also offer flexible ongoing courses for airline staff that realise that they need to improve their English.

my understanding is that if you get 4 or above you make it to the next round of interviews....and you don't find out your actual score unless you make it all the way through and they tell you just before your course starts...

this may be old news however...I am sure some things have changed from what I remember....
