IndAir967 16th Aug 2009 05:30

you may be given odd jobs and errands to do meanwhile, like in go-air some trainee pilots also double up as ground staff, ticketing guys, luggage handlers etc.
paramount airways also, trainees and sometimes even senior first officers are told to do odd jobs not related to flying like promoting airline, ticket selling (not in uniform obviously http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ilies/evil.gif).
sometime back in May 2009 paramount airways conducted a fake exam in chennai just to remain in news for marketing and PR purposes.
Exam was conducted by junior HR boys, cabin crew girls and some first officers !
later these exam papers answersheets were forwarded to HR boss and subsequently thrown
that post really dipresses me..
if i am asked to do all that.. i wud very happily show my middle finger
and put up my papers..

ABCD Pilot 16th Aug 2009 06:19

That's the wrong attitude. If you want to make it big as a pilot, you have to pay your dues. In many countries, you won't touch an A320 until you have 3-5,000 hours.

If they make you do odd jobs after paying, you can't complain. You know it now going into it. Take it, and show them you're the best at what you do, no matter what it is. That will get you ahead.

I understand paying to get in is not right...a lot of us work really hard and just as much as the other guy. But if you choose that route, be humble, and don't wreck it. They have your money.

Don't think the Indian Aviation won't turn around. They have a lot of motivating factors with them. It's mostly the global recession, and the combination of high costs and low revenue. It will turn around, and there will be a bright day in Indian Aviation once again.

Good Luck to everybody!

pimps or dalals

why not put a directory of all the current airline pimps scouting for clients(pilots).makes it easier for both

ABCD Pilot 16th Aug 2009 15:15

Okay, then after that lets make a directory of drug dealers :ok:

Is it that blatant that they basically should have a directory?

How does dat sound? :{

go air

is go air taking aps for experienced co-pilots not rated on the 320?

IndAir967 25th Aug 2009 05:18

ABCDPilot.. i have been watching ur posts for quiet sometime and i understand ur desperation for a job..
Now time for a few questions to see if any of us could help u on something..

1. I understand u have flown the turbo fan acft.. what plane was it ?
2. Do u by any chance have any kind of frozen ATPL from any country ?

Now if u are looking at joining the majors in india.. u either need the 737 or the 320 rating or hold an ALTP rating.. with out which I am sorry to say you are very much in line with a fresh CPL holder:ouch: waiting for the vacancy..

BUT

When an position arises you will undoutedly be the first choice:D..

ALSO

If you hold any of the mentioned ratings..
You are an walk in ... into almost any airline..

Hope it helps !

shanx 25th Aug 2009 06:28

I would agree to that.

ABCD Pilot,

Instead of posting the same thing on every thread, why dont you post your flying hours, ratings etc. so that it would be easy for members to give you the right inputs ?
Some "agents" in this forum also would be able to help you out that way !!! :E:E:}

mic310 25th Aug 2009 08:00

blackknight999 25th Aug 2009 08:26

indair u said that couple of folks r online on 320...so whats this program all about and i heard that after the training the company makes u sit at home for a long time before they let u fly!!

Experience

Okay, I'll post my credentials:

I am an FAA/DGCA CPL Holder
900 Hours Total Time
350 Hours Jet Experience
Challenger 604 Corporate Jet Rating (48,200 LBS MTOW)
2 Years experience flying a Corporate Jet in mumbai under FATA
CPL/CFI/II
Graduate from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a degree in Business 2007

I'm willing to finance an A-320/B-737 type rating if appointed to a company or whatever it takes to get onto an airbus or 737.(Well not anything, but anything sensible)

ABCD Pilot 25th Aug 2009 16:15

Also, I can do my frozen FAA, do you think that would be an advantage? I was going to wait till I was closer to 1500 because it will expire, but maybe I should just get that done.

ABCD pilot,
having a rating might not be of help anymore.Confirm if u will get a job before u fund 4 ur rating.I know atleast 2 people with 320 rating without a job.good luck

ABCD Pilot 25th Aug 2009 16:44

FAA Frozen

gottofly:

Exactly. I think for the DGCA requirement I need a letter from the company anyway to get approval so that it can be put on my Indian License. Regardless, I would like to have a confirmation of a job before paying, because then what if I end up having to pay for 2 ratings I would be in debt forever!

IndAir:

I don't have my FAA ATPL written, if that's what you are referring to. I can get that as I am in the States right now. I actually just purchased the Gleim, so one weeks worth of studying I can have that wrapped up.

I'm coming back to India on Sept. 30th for my Medical. I just lack the connections. I know some of the HR people in the airlines, but they are giving me the "not hiring" message. I know Spice Jet, GO AIR, and Indigo have all hired people with a little help from uncle ghandi.

shanx 25th Aug 2009 17:09

ABCD Pilot,

I dont think the "frozen ATPL" concept exists in the USA, and nor do other countries recognise it.

Also, right now, connections at "HR manager" level is practically of no use ... except perhaps to sneak your resume inside ahead of others WHEN VACANCIES COME UP.

Otherwise, to get in to an airline, you'll need to know someone really big and high up the order ... like VP, Director etc.

IndAir967 25th Aug 2009 18:07

Otherwise, to get in to an airline, you'll need to know someone really big and high up the order ... like VP, Director etc.
No buddy.. even thats not of great use today..
U can give it a try in Spice(Mr.Ajay) or Indigo (???) or Go Air (Wadia)
Paramount will definitely use their code: 25+15
Jet is in a messed up shape right now.. with pilots and management at war !
Air India .. Hee Hee
Kingfisher .. Haa Haa

And yea ABCD pilot.. as an instructor I am a lil surprised you aint aware that FAA does not issue Frozen ATPs .. !

Anyways good luck to you !

ABCD Pilot 25th Aug 2009 18:18

Okay, my mistake I meant to say FAA ATPL Written. I had never heard about an ATPL "frozen" until I came to India.

ABCD Pilot 25th Aug 2009 18:37

Shanx - You stated earlier that there are "agents" lurking the forums. Can anybody pm with how to get in touch with one of these guys. Preferably one for an airline not named Paramount.

Indair - You said earlier that if I had an A320/B737 rating and with my experience I would be a walk-in? I mean, I'm willing to go do my A320 type, I just need to get a job before I have to go pay for another recurrent!

If anybody can give me some advice, or lead me in the right direction, I would be very happy.(ie some phone numbers or emails) I understand I don't have a whole lot of experience, but more so then the average 250 hr fresher. If need be, I'll go get an A320 rating without a job in hand, as long as theres a strong likely hood that I get a job quickly with that. (As to avoid getting recurrent). Hope that doesn't come off as being pretentious, for the fact that I do understand I only have 900 hours...

Oh, I forgot to mention. I have a CL604 rating which is basically a CRJ Rating. It's a 6 day difference course from the 604 to CRJ, so I was trying to get info for alliance air if possible.

blackknight999 26th Aug 2009 04:45

hey fellows how is CAE centre in brussels and canada as compared to what is there in bangalore for the type rating???
and whats a frozen ATPL since i heard u guyz talking bout it??:ugh:

ABCD Pilot 26th Aug 2009 05:42

frozen ATPL

A frozen ATPL is issued by certain Aviation Authorities signifying those who are qualified for the ATPL license as far as passing all of their written/theoretical exams, but non-qualified in the sense that they do not meet the minimum flight experience or are not old enough.

This is different from having your FAA written done, which as pointed out previously is not a Frozen ATPL.

shanx 26th Aug 2009 08:47

ABCD Pilot,

I guess Paramount is the only airline where you are guaranteed employment right now. Not because of flying qualifications, rather MONETARY qualifications !! :E

Indair967, .. actually I would agree with you.

However, jack/jugaad/money or whatever might still work in Spicejet and Indigo.
What that guy Agent123 said sometime back in some thread regarding backdoor entries is not entirely incorrect.
A lot of cadets have been taken in SG and Indigo through the backdoor superceeding their cadets.
Ofcourse, one has to know the right channels to go through I guess ! :}

shanx 26th Aug 2009 08:50

Shanx - You stated earlier that there are "agents" lurking the forums. Can anybody pm with how to get in touch with one of these guys. Preferably one for an airline not named Paramount.
That was meant to be a tongue in cheek ! ..
Of course, you never know ! :E
I've seen some of those "agents" post in some threads on ORKUT forums.
Not sure how reliable they are.

shanx 27th Aug 2009 05:18

bt wen u sit at home long enuf.desperation kicks in..:ugh:

and THAT my friend, is THE VERY thing that all agents capitalise on !!

I have heard of pilots from the last boom in the early 90s who did odd jobs for a living, had no option but to remain single forever, remained unemployed with Instructor Rating for almost 4-5 years and FINALLY managed to pay bribes and get into an airline by begging/borrowing from their relatives/friends and mortgaging their only house/ancestral property.

ABCD Pilot 27th Aug 2009 05:51

networking

Okay, So i decided there's only one way to get a job. Severe networking. At least it can't hurt to try. Therefore, I've created a list of all my contacts. I will send it to whoever wants it, BUT here is the catch:

YOU MUST SEND ME ONE AIRLINE CONTACT FOR ME TO FWD U MY LIST. IT ALSO MUST BE DIFFERENT THEN THE ONES ON MY LIST. I'll tell you what I have so faro:

Indigo - I got the HR heads email/phone number
- I know three Capts, but i won't give out their info they are my friends!
GoAir - The HR@ or Jobs@ doesnt work. So i got the Chief Pilots e-mail addy
Air India - I'm an NRI (OCI) so I don't care, but if anybody has info I'll gladly add it.
Jet Lite - I have their expat email address, not sure if that helps anybody. I also got the CRJ Chief Pilots info.
Kingfisher - I don't think anybody really cares. I know two FO's there, but once again they are my friends so I won't give tha tout.
Spice Jet - I have the careers@ email like everybody else, but nothing else.
Paramount - I have 3 emails and phone numbers to upper management guys there, but since it's 40 lacs to go fly a EMB 170, I'm going to bite my tongue...okay I'll put that on the list too.
Luan Airways - a new start up, I have all of their contact info, but they are looking for type rated CRJ guys...which I am, but no call back :(
Star Air India - no contact info, please add it to the list.
Deccan 360 - I have just the standard HR emails.

Recruiters - I know one recruiter who has done recruiting for all of the above airlines. I'm trying to talk him into becoming an agent. He has too many ethics, however. So, he's a good friend of mine and is sneaking me some other addys/phone numbers and trying to work out a deal for me. (maybe he doesn't have ethics)

Agents - I have the email addy of one agent, though I'm not sure if it's legitimate or not.

Now, I'm sure these guys get 1000's of emails/calls "Please sir I'm desperate give me job I work hard", but I don't really think that's going to get you anywhere. Don't solicit or mass email these guys, they'll just change their contact info and then we are all up  creek. So, be careful at how you use em, it might put a sour taste in their mouth, and they may never want your candy again......

Oh btw, I'm going to start an airline of Indica 172's and charge everybody 1,000 RS to apply, how does that sound? :{

So, if you want to work WITH me, then we can all help each other. Okay, keep the blue side up fellas.

ABCD PILOT I hope u realise that PPRUNE is the meeting point of some of the most experienced of flight crews on this planet with some flying the A380s and a lot of em flying the B777s and a lot of curious young FOs like me who are hear to learn from the experienced and also share the knowledge we have got to young pilots and wannabees..

Having been an instructor I can see the enthusiasm you have got in this industry and it doesnt require big brains to realise that u are aspiring to be a professional pilot.. but I really want to emphasise that you definitely need to be frank enough with the way you are.. no body is here to show off their credentials and contacts .. we are all here to learn..
A lot of us in our industry are striving very hard to change the way western folks(expat pilots coming to india) think of the attitude the indian fos have got..

The fundamentals of instruction say MOTIVATION is the basis of all learning..
So instead of commenting on anything that u ve posted .. I would ask you to remain frank and straightforward if u need to go any where in this industry..

May you take it to the skies !
