Hong Kong self-sponsored CPL holders - where are you?

Just wondering how many hong kong local people have paid themselves to complete their CPL/CIR/ATPL training? how many of you have manage to get a flying job at all?

I know it is very low chance, but is there any hopes for hk local ppl to get into CX/Drangon/AHK/HKE/HKA? anybody did manage to get in?

I am just about to finish my flying degree in Australia, I have my CPL and getting my MECIR very soon. and planning to head up north.......

Any possibility to get a job around SE Asia at least?

I know it is impossible to return to hk for a flying job with bare CPL/MECIR, there is No GA in HK, China, Macao...........any people who is training for CPL or already got CPL wanna comment on it?

Friend,

Do yourself a really BIG favour and stay away from HKA/HKE - I'm sure your mother wants you around for a few more Xmas's yet.:ok:

Where did you start?

I don't think you should even consider doing that...given you are already 86 years old...:}

Unless u want to spend ur next 10 years in debt and worry about how to pull ur head out of the water...stay away from Mainland China...

Hi all,

Just found this web site and this post and they are informative.

I have the same question of how to start a flying career for hongkonger. I've just got the PPL in Aus few months ago and now going to apply the CPP again. In case I can't get the offer, I'm going to sponsor myself for the CPL MECIR in the future. As people said there's no GA in HK and China and it's almost impossible to get a job in GA in Aus since I don't have the citizenship, how can I can the career after I got the license?

Do China's airlines accept hongkonger with only 250hr and frozen ATPL and almost 30 years old? Anyone got simialr experience?

Thanks a lot!

Well how should I put this, try to stay out of china unless your a captain. FO jobs are basically next to 0 unless you have lots of experience/ chinese citizen or have a caac license. You will find if you have an FATPL no airline in china (well I haven't heard of any) will take you on, because its considered as a large investment for them.

Basically you can convert from ICAO to CAAC license with FATPL by:
1)Gaining an CAAC medical (Astronaut medical)
2)Completing the theory exams, 3 of them (PPL, CPL, IR).
3)Doing the 3 flight tests (PPL, CPL, IR)
Then after this you will get your converted CAAC license. Priced approximately 60000RMB, excluding medical fee, accomodation or eating costs.
Its going to be difficult to get a school just to do this conversion, so be prepared to look hard as there arn't many.

The last quote I got (recently) for CAAC conversion, Flight Instructor Rating with Guarenteed job at the end was 280000RMB, which was too expensive for myself, didn't want to spend so much money on an FI rating when you can get one in the UK for about 8-9000 pounds averagely.

Unless your willing to pay alot of money, you won't get anything with an FATPL, well unless you have an FI rating from abroad with alot of teaching hours, or your a commercial aircraft captain...

Goodluck all!!!
