CX Start Dates
 

Hi to all the lucky people going for interviews.

I was wondering what CX told the rest of the interviewees with regards to their start dates. I went for an interview in November 2006, and was told that the start date for our group will only be end of 2007. So if that is the case, when do they plan to get the guys going for interviews now on course?

It a rather long wait for such an exciting career move (when it finally happens).

I had my DESO first interview Nov 2006, second interview Jan 2007, and told to expect to start around July 2007. I am interested in hearing any changes to that, if anyone has heard anything.

It appears to be around 7-8 months from first interview to course date. CX quite often over-estimates actual start dates.

Well I hope they keep in in chronological order since I will then start in round about May/June - will let you guys know...

G'day guys I was succesfull at my DESO second interview in Feb, and was told to expect a start towards the end of the year. Monica said that they would probably call around June/July offering a course date with 3 months notice.

I have had the YES over the phone and that was a joyous moment, but was wondering if we recieve anything in writing stating that we were successful. When do we get contracts? Is that once we have a start date?

Anyone out there with aconfirmed start date in the near future? If so when did you have the second interview.

Once you have a confirmed start date everything will be sent to you. Don’t sweat. Don’t give notice to you current employer until you have a start date and everything is signed and confirmed.

Congratulations, Gravox! I received a letter in the mail about 2 weeks after the phone call (or email), explaining that I was successful in the interview process and that they would call me later. It was all rather anticlimactic. I'm hoping for a July start date, but we'll see.

Just cancelled my interview. Started to think about it: Move to Hong Kong, pax around the world 2-4 years before getting to fly the damn thing, for about half the salary I have now? Leave my family and friends just like that? And what about the missus? Sit alone in some high-rise building with no chance of getting a decent job, just sitting around staring at the walls for the next few years? Sudely, the prospect of spending even more time away from my family, staring at the ocean from 38.000ft all day long, jet lagged and feeling my handling skills just slip away with each passing day. Eeerh, nope. :rolleyes:
But that's ME. Best of luck to all of those getting the thumbs-up from CX :ok:

RegretCX: Funny - have a couple of mates working for Cathay and living in HK and they love every minute. Guess they must be wrong or possibly they just have the wrong attitude.

As I follow these threads, I can't help but think that cxregret must be some kind of parasitic virus. It attaches itself to nearly every thread in an effort to destroy or derail both CX and anyone who shows an interest in CX. It even goes so far as to send nasty emails attacking those who might show an interest in CX.

Is there no way to innoculate this thing...it's predictable, regularly invasive, and not only tiresome, but constantly unpleasant.

Yeah it does feel a little anticlimatic, but I'll enjoy my time left where I am, before moving to Hong Kong.

i have a theory about regretCX, I think he is trying to scare everyone away from Cathay so that the management might think gees we really need to increase the T&C here so more people will apply. So infact regretCX is trying to help us all out. In that case, I think I'm already regretting the fact that i am excited about starting. Don't join Cathay!!!...hahaha :ok:

Oh, I think regret cx is a little negative. However, I really loved everything about aviation until going to work for CX. 15 years of professional flying experience prior to CX (9 yrs w/2 other airlines), 3 years with CX. Now I look at that big metal tube and feel like slitting my throat rather than strapping into that thing. Hours of boredom, high levels of radiation, and flying with guys who are so paranoid that they think management is listening to their cockpit conversation. Training is sort of like navigating through a mine field, just hope your lucky. I personally have been lucky, but it is still a total pain in the you know what. CX is a good job, but definitely not a fun one (my opinion). Also, nobody really flies at Cathay, you just push buttons. Sometimes, you even push the right button at the right time. Biggest thing to remember, proper wx radar tilt management in severe clear or you may get extended for extra sectors. Something about scanning for wx with your sunglasses on just doesn't make much sense. But at CX, it could cost you your job!

You're on the wavelength dude...................I too have had the three hour debrief due to poor radar knob twiddling.....it is a sad place isn't it?
