interview questions
hi folks here's my tech questions...no many were in the gouge. I'll put some of the answers I had so some of them might be wrong
What is RNP? Required navigation peformance What is some rule of thumb for RNP? didn't know How long is the flight from HGK to SFO? 12 hours... i think its more like 10 how about SFO to HGK? about 14 Why? winds What is the transition altitude in HGK? didn't know What do you think it is? I knew US is 18 oz is 10, europe 5 or6 i think guessed 10 what are the different types of deice fluid...told all of them if there's frost underneath the wing can you t/off? yes how much? .8 mm i think when does the holdover time begin? beginning of last application what is start procedure on your a/c? what would you do with rapid cabin depressuriztion? gave the drill how would you check your MEA if your charts blew all over the cockpit? I said ask ATC, but i don't think this was the answer he was after, maybe a EGPWS answer perhaps what would you do if you had 190 t of fuel and you needed 192t as required fuel? for some reason i thought we were at max fuel so i talked about the dispatch procedure where you dispatch to somewhere other than your final destination, that wasn't right so I talked about rear CoG, then optimum altitude...i felt like an idiot when he said take off pax and put on more fuel. i guess we weren't at max fuel do you need to know PH before t/o? yes if the QNH was 1006 is this better or worse for peformance than standard? worse what would be the ph then how much fuel would we have on landing in HK after a long trip? fixed res how much is that on the 747? didn't know see if you can work it out? i didn't know the ff of the 744 so i did a little mental math using my current a/c consumption and gave and answer which was wrong because if forgot to multiply by 4 engines what is RVSM? what would happen if you were climbing at a rapid rate? TCAS might go off how would you stop this? reduce VS what if the a/c was in capture mode? hit ALT tell me about a time a captain made a decision you didn't agree with what does a SO do? how many days off a month? tell me about a time you had an emergency what is max speed in your a/c at FL330? is it always that? yes no speed limitation for maneovering since there are no mach trimmers on my a/c and MCrit occurs significantly higher than MMO. i'm not sure what he thought of this answer, all i knew is there are no limitations on speed for maneovering, unless you exceeded the maneovering limits of the a/c do you ever overspeed in the a/c? what is your procedure when this happens? reduce thrust could you use spoilers? not sure if i got this one right...i said yes, of course you wouldn't, there is an AD on the a/c that says don't do with the AP engaged, but again no speed limitations on the spoilers so I said yes. hope that helps. i'd recommend study for the HR. have somebody sit down and ask you questions about your background and know what you're going to say. i didn't feel happy with my tech interview performance, my HR though i sat down with some friends who grilled me and pointed out where i needed to give more positive answers. for example tell me something good about your company, normally you would have heard crickets, but i had this one ready to go...they hire great people. |
Great info - thanks for passing it along...:ok:
|
Great info, cheers
For RNP answer check http://www.aviationmanuals.com/articles/article3.html No idea what they could of meant by rule of thumb though... |
transition altitudes in hk
Transition alt is 9000 ft
Transition level is FL110 That is with ISA When QNH is below 970 (i think) then the Transition level moves to FL120 Great info btw, cheers :} |
For RNP rule of thumb did they mean from your basic nav check? within 2miles and 5 degrees? Depending how far you are from the navaid of course.
