Standard to tougher questions...
 

Hello guys,

As always I 'm worrying about the interviews for the Cadet Pilot Programme provided by Cathay Pacific.

I am planning to get some hours before applying my application, I heard that people with flying experinces will be asked with tougher questions and in most tests, CX expects them to do better than those who don't have any flying experinces.

My questions are: 1:At least how many hours a candidate has the interviewers will move up for harder questions?
2: And how many hours do you guys recommand me to get?

1. Personaly i have 2 hours only. And i was asked very similar questions to those who has cpl and ppl. I think they will ask you a bit more in depth if you have a license. I am made to believe they focus more on the personal background quesionts, please be well prepared. Know yourself.

2. I would say it doesnt really matter, one or 2 hr is just fine. In the final interview I met a guy with only 1 hour, another with a ppl and the last one with cpl. We all get to the final stage. I would recommend reading more about aerodynamics, know the CX's fleet and the latest news of CX. (please change to KA if you are not CX's fans)

I think it's not too fair when a guy with 2 hours and a guy with a CPL or PPL to be asked with similar or same questions...

Anyway thanks, now I'll give another serious consideration of it...:D

The ability to answer technical questions is just a part of the interview. The interviewers are also looking at the candidate's attitude, ability to cope under stress, and how he/she communicates. It's definitely okay to say I'm not sure to a question as I don't think they expect a candidate to know everything. Getting a PPL or even logging a few hours in HK is not easy, but you can still deepen your knowledge in aviation through books, joining CX's I can fly/HK air cadets, and flight simulator. There are online groundschool courses available on the Internet so not being able to go overseas to acquire flying hours is not the be all and end all.

But if you have the opportunity to get flying experience, definitely go for it!

As you have already told us, you are not yet sixteen years of age but very, very enthusiastic about joining Cathay Pacific. Your enthusiasm is to be admired but you really shouldn't start worrying about the interview just yet! there is so much water still to go under the bridge.
By monitoring this forum you will be able to keep yourself abreast of the trends and changes in the CX interview system and keep that as background knowledge but you must not let it become an obsession, there is plenty more to life than CX, plenty more airlines and plenty more career paths.
Stay with us, you are very welcome but try to unwind a bit and put a few other things, like getting out and enjoying yourself, first.
