Cathay Pacific DESO
Hello,
Is there any chance of getting accepted by Cathay Pacific with less than 3000 hours? Has anyone ever got accepted with less than 2000 hours for DE S/O? Also, does anyone know or have a prediction on whether the requirements will lower in future or not? Your help would be appreciated. Condensation |
Can someone answer my questions above please? Silberfuchs, 404 Titan, anyone?
I also have one more question which should be easier to answer (hopefully), how old on average are the S/Os that join Cathay Pacific? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks! |
I don't have the "official" answers for your questions, but I can tell you that during my stay in HK, most applicants in my group were around their late twenties/early thirties.
|
I a word No..... well not at the moment. CX has thousands of people on file that have over 3000 hours. Supply and demand.... until the table turns, you don't have any chance of an interview at this stage.
Average age (I'm guessing) is about 27 to 30. Sorry if that not the answer you are looking for. |
I will check on that for you. Cuz I think my friend has got an interview for SO out of HKG with 0 jet pic and atleast 2000 hrs. If I dont get back to you PM me to remind me.
|
Thank you very much for your replies, they've been very helpful!
LOC1GSarmed, I will send you a PM soon Cheers. |
As the previous guy said. there are exceptions.
Not sure if you truly need an answer to the question anyway. No one knows if they are a square peg or not in the eyes of the panel. But for those who need some reassurance, then there are the stories of exceptions. A guy started about a year ago, straight from GA. No turbine. No multi crew exp. less than 2000hrs. mid to late 30's. Had no probs, did well. Good luck. |
Thank you for your help everyone, although the majority don't get in with less than 3000 hrs, it seems like there is a 'little' chance if you are lucky enough so I won't be totally negative about it :ok:
If anyone who works at Cathay Pacific or are applying for Cathay Pacific don't mind, it'd be greatly appreciated if you could PM me to talk about being a pilot at Cathay Pacific or aviation. LOC1GSarmed, please check your PMs. Thank you very much. Cheers everyone, Condensation |
Here's another non-official exemption to boggle your minds.....
Being an instructor at the British Aerospace Flight Training College in Adelaide, Australia (on their advanced fleet of single engine Grob G115, Tobago TB10, and twin Duchess BE76)- will also get you an interview. No need to worry about hours or experience there!!!!!! |
In an attempt to keep the spirirts up of those hoping for an interview with CX, here's my own story. I got the call from Hong Kong last night for a DESO interview in SFO on Aug 1st.
33 years old. Displaced Aussie flying CRJ's in the US. Spent 10 years living in HKG when my dad was with CX back in the 70's. And no I didn't have any contacts there. 3800 Total Time 1000 Jet 2200 Multi Engine FAA ATP CASA (Australian) ATPL Sent 1st application in Sep 2004. Phoned end of April, 2005 to let them know I'd be submitting an update and to find out exactly what the unofficial mins for SO's are. It was also a chance to let them know exactly how much I was interested in CX and I to mention that I'd have 1000 jet by the end of May. Submitted an upadate May 2005. Called for interview June 2005, having just finished a trip where I logged 1000 Jet. Spooky I know. Keep trying and don't be afraid to talk to the ladies in HKG. It is worth mentioning that every man and his dog in the US is applying for CX right now. Things are crap here and the chances of ever flying anything larger than a 737/320 are becoming non-existant. there are 1000's of pilots with 3000TT and 1000Turbine, which I'm sure has made things more competetive. |
DESO
Just got a call for AuGUST 2nd interview as DESO in SFO
TT 2800 turbine 1650 (sic EMB). Age 35 applied 12 months ago. Hope helps |
Thanks for the replies, they are greatly appreciated! Gives me an idea of what age you get invited for an interview, seems like it's between 30 and 40
wonganopolous, hope what you say is true :} Keep the replies coming, would be interested to hear from those who are around 25 and got accepted. Once again, thank you very much! |
"Gives me an idea of what age you get invited for an interview, seems like it's between 30 and 40 "
not necessarily... i got the invite at age 24 with about about 3200 hours TT. |
Just got the call from Hong Kong....
3100 tt A bit over 1000 PIC Turbine (Regional Airline) 36 years old Does anyone know if they fly you to the first interview or is that your own resposibility? I'm going either way, but I was just wondering... Good luck to all Cheers! |
28, German, about 3000h regional turboprop time. Applied last summer.
(I never thought they would invite any Germans, am I the only one here?) |
Excellent! Thanks for your reply bumboclot.
Keep the replies coming and well done! :ok: |
Sorry for bringing this topic back up, I would like to know what age the youngest DESOs at CX are.
Does age play a part in DESO? Most of those who get accepted I see are between their 30s and 40s. Thanks |
yeah guys in mid twentys get hired, there is no prejudice against being young...look at the cadets.. you still need total time to compete, I was hired at 25 albiet 4 years ago, but had 3500TT 2000 turbine.
