Results from week of 4/25/05

Found out tonight I was not successful for the DEFO fist interview. Mixed emotions as I heard the words "sorry but you were not successful". I know many have gone before me and also heard those words but it is never easy to hear that you are a failure in CX eyes.
I had studied for 2 months only to face defeat. With any loss a review of went wrong will result and a reapplication will occur and I will continue my pursuit of Cathay Pacific until they either say Welcome or STOP. To those successful, I applaud your accomplishment with humbleness and a bit of jealousy to be honest. Good luck. :(

I called Pauline at 0200 EDT last night and received good news, I was successful on my DEFO interview in SFO last week. It appears that it will be some time before stage two, she mentioned September maybe.

Sorry to hear about it. I am gonna have DEFO interview in YVR. In wich area do you think I have to study a lot to be successful? With how many flight hours you went to an interview?

VRThomas 14th May 2005 22:19

I went through to the second level and NONE of my group of 8 got in.

I studied my guts out for 3 months before the first interview and carried on into the second. 10 months total.

I was ready for anything and practiced on the 47 sim. I was a little uncomfortable with the way some of the questions were posed which may have caused me to appear uncertain and wished they had asked me some of the questions that the other guys got that were a little more specifically technical in nature.

Study EVERYTHING AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. Practice practice practice. Pay for good books and pay for sim time. Pay for phone calls to Cathay whenever you need to. Make sure your logbook is up to date and entered for each and every day that you have ever flown. Know your current aircraft and operation well.

Don't ever say to yourself: "well that should be enough."

Oh yah... and keep your fingers crossed.

I know the feeling well and comiserate with you. I have just been accepted as an SO at Cathay but was rejected by two other majors first.

Take care and good luck with your application to CX.
