Experience commensurate with age

Does anyone know what "Experience commensurate with age" really means?
Does Cathay have written requirements or unwritten rules? I’m interested in a SO position but got into flying later than most.
I’m 44 with about 1200 hrs. Most as an FO multi turbine.

If you read through this thread, ignore the posts in the middle about the medical, you will get some idea.
From recent posts it would seem that a total of 3000 hours of which at least 1000 are turbine type or 500 jet would get you an application form for Second Officer, (SO). I would suggest that experience at age 44 would usually be at least ten thousand hours Civil and about half that if coming straight from the Military, assuming that you had launched into a flying career in your early twenties.

I think the cut off for S/O positions is 38 and 45 for F/Os.

Gidday Metal Head,

If you want a definitive answer ring recruiting. I rang them recently and was told that, at 40 I am too old to be an S/O.

I also have seen a table showing, "experience commensurate with age" which said at 40 I should have 4000 hours, 41 4500 hours, 42 5000 hours, etc, etc...

Cant remember where I saw it now though.

Anway keep plugging away, something will definately come your way. Just need to be patient, I know it's hard when we are in our forties. ;)

Cheers, HH.

:ok:

as for me i was told on the phone that with 4.000 hours, lots of turbine and turbine pic ,i could not compete in the pool unless i had some jet time , ( early 40 ) .
a friend of mine with about 2500 hours and basically about 35 hours of multi non turbine got in , but then he is 25 .
I just keep trying but the older you get , without any jet time it will be a tought go, but nothing is impossible .....

your friend with 2500hrs did he not have a bunch of turbine time on a 208?, just curious
