Hi everyone

Just a quickie, does anybody know if HTBJ is required reading for the cadet pilot interview, or any stage in the selection process? And if an applicant already possesses ratings (CASA, JAA or FAA) does anyone know just how down and dirty CX interviewers get with technical questions (systems etc.) in the interview?

p.s. do I have the most up to date edition of HTBJ? It says third edition, printed in 1979, but looks like it should be carbon-dated to make sure it's kosher (the copy I got is all dusty, dog eared, yellow).....

I have to ask you. Have you taken the trouble to look at any of the many threads on this forum dealing with interviews? I think not! Otherwise you would have seen that HTBJ is required reading and if you browse and search a bit more you find many other useful references as well as just how deep you need to go! Many other PPRuNers have given hours of their valuable time to produce the relevant information for you and post it here, a shame to waste it, don't you think!?:D

how much different is the 2nd edition to the 3rd edition?

Apologies, I had no intention of being a pain, or wasting other people's time and effort. I appreciate your feedback, I suppose it doesn't hurt to absorb HTBJ. I was under the impression that it was for the D/E applicants only, not the cadets. Thanks for the tip though :)

In the preface to the third edition the author mentions several additions/changes to the second or third edition. I was told by a couple of cx guys that you only want the third, since it's the most up to date. Reading through the first few pages the changes that the author mentions seem pretty significant, so it's probably a really good idea to get your hands on a third ed. Hope that helps but if you need specifics let me know.....

Just got my copy a few days ago from Transair (UK), Third Edition, Reprinted January 2004.
No major changes, I think, from the original Third Edition, December 1971. Looks just fine!!!:ok:

Personally, I think it wouldn't hurt to get a copy and start reading since before the 2nd interview they will throw you some books to read and then ask you tech questions later on. Plus if you do make it all the way to cadet training you would need to book anyway. Think of it as early investment.

and all the rest, i guess i'll go for it and try to find a third edition, what the hey, it is only 30~40 US$, for a job @ CX, it is worth it, another book to the library!!
