CX Interview Prep

Hello everyone!

I just got the call I've been waiting 8 years for this morning! I have an interview in 2 months and I'm frantically trying to piece together everything I'm going to need to prepare for the interview.

If anyone has any suggestions on which books to use, what things to know, and if there is an interview prep course / seminar in Canada or the US it would be greatly appreciated. I'm already aware of the Cathay Interview prep book and Flying the Big Jets.... any other suggestions or comments.

Thanks for any and all input...... Fratically yours  ,

Flyin' Brian :)

best of luck to all who have a sim eval coming up. I had mine in Feb, passed, and am waiting for a start date.

My best friend for the interview was Google. Punch in any of the topics you want to study, and out will come reams of articles on everything. Some will be basic, and some will be PhD thesis on aerody, but there is some priceless info on the net.

Do an interview course. They are worth every cent.

Do a practise sim, and be honest if they ask you about it.

Focus on personal questions. Why cathay, strong/weak points, travel history, examples of stress. This is far more important than the tech stuff.

And get as much sleep as you can before the interview. Do not stay up until 2am reading the last few pages of HTBJ. Get at least 8 hours minimum.

Do not at any point think that you have blown the interview. You will be surprised. I was.

Best of luck

bate

check out www.pilotcareercentre.com for an interview prep course. they are based in vancouver, canada. a bit pricey, but do a great job. they have very up to date info on CX.

Would either of you two lucky gentlemen be kind enough to share your level of experience and type of time with us ?

Just want to get an idea where the bar is currently being set.

Thanks, and good luck to both of you.

Also to anybody who may know the answer. Doing prep with the multitudes of books available. But there are a few inconsistencies with numbers. Do any of you think the exact numbers are what they are after or are they merely wanting to see that you have made an effort and can at least learn.

Here are a few examples of what I have uncovered.

Study document states MTOW of the 747-400 at 394,625Kg
Boeing Website has it at 396,000Kg

Adding up the Cathay website fleet numbers the sum is 82.
I have seen an up to date document stating 84 (and counting). But which fleet numbers are wrong?

I have seen numerous differing documents stating the engine variants. But they dont seem to back each other up.

Those are but a few. Should I be worried about the series of RB211's in use along with their thrust rating or should I just get out more (personally I would rather get out more as the inconsistancies are doing my head in).

Cheers to all about to undertake the process.

The latest on the fleet can be derived from recent press releases on the Cathay website. Try this link: http://www.cathaypacific.com/intl/ab...105667,00.html This link describes the acquisition of eight new short and medium haul aircraft over the next few years. It also provides an up-to-date listing of the fleet composition, including freighters. Interesting to note is the promise of further expansion plans in the long haul fleet. I guess this would tie in nicely with the plans to put some of the 747-400s through the 747-400F Special Freighter conversion...

The info in this press release is backed up by the details listed in the 2003 Annual Report to Shareholders, located here http://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/intr...47_ar2003e.pdf They can't go making that bit up, the shareholders wouldn't stand for it!!

So far as discrepancies in specs and engines, that is less easy to resolve. I don't think any interview board is going to crucify you for being +/- a bit for an aircraft on which you are not qualified. It would be nice to have the confidence that your numbers are spot on though! FWIW, at my first interview I was asked *nothing* of a specific numerical nature about any Cathay types...

Hope this helps

Cheers

envoy,
Thanks very much for that. I was about to check the press releases for the future aquisitions (hadn't even contemplated that the current fleet would be there). I too think it may be a bit over the top to memorise the entire fleet config. But I want to be as thorough as is practicably reasonable. Think I might just get out a little bit more now then.

Cheers
Stick
