Cathay pacific email.

Today I checked my mail to find an email from Cathay pacific.
It's been a year and a half since I applied and haven't heard a word from them, but now they "request" applicants that are still interested.

Is this simply an 'update your CV' mail, or are they really that low on suitable applicants?

I received this email too mate. It was sent to everyone as I have seen on other forms. So have they just deleted the entire database of applicants?

On hold

To everyone thinking of Cathay. Non local Second Officer recruitment has been on hold for around 8 months and isn't due to start again until well into next year. You also have to remember that when recruiting for non HKID card holders was suspended, there were people who had been waiting for flight grading for 8 months and other who hadn't got a flight grading date even. So even when they do decide to start again they will have a backlog of about 100 or so people to get through first.

Even if you get an interview tomorrow, it will be at least 12 months just to get a flight grading spot.

This is interesting because I guess they just sent this to everybody, including those still in the selection process.

I just received this email from Cathay Pacific too but I haven't been rejected (no rejection email). To those that just checked their emails but haven't got a clue of what it is, don't freak out. I just called Cathay and apparently they have a "new" database...to me what seems more like a way to clean up their mess...

I am trying to log in using my user-id but getting an error msg:
"System Error
The online application system is currently unavailable, please update your application information later."

I have been get this error every time I try to log in.
I have emailed Cathay regarding this, let see what reply I get from them.
Other than this, any suggestion/advice would be welcome.
Thanks.

The email is interesting. Does anyone know for sure whether Cx is going to hire anymore non HKID card holders in the near future? The strong rumours swirling are as long as there are enough permanent HKID card holders applying, they won't be hiring others. Has anyone else heard this?

Ok, there has been a bit of a shake up in recent months in the aircrew department at Cathay, so things might well be changing. The nature of things with Cathay I find, is that nothing is ever certain, and that goes for both ends of the scale.

Some things I found interesting about this new email.

1. In all likelihood they have wiped the old database as it is years old, and starting from scratch is easier than reviewing applicants who no longer want to be part of the programme, this is good. (Edit - for a bit more clarification, I think it is good because I don't think they have much difficulty getting HKID card holders through the process. Revamping the database would certainly help them sort through the enormous number of non HKID card holders.)

2. They say to make the application within six weeks, this is very good.

3. Within the new application, there are some changes, including the two essay type questions. (I much prefer the new questions). It seems to be an indication that they are ramping up recruitment.

Any one of these points doesn't mean much by itself, but all together it is quite encouraging. Hopefully they are starting a new recruitment drive so they can hit the ground running as the new orders start rolling in.

Yes my hunch was that they were just clearing out the old database of people who have since moved on. There was probably thousands in there, who no longer have any interest in Cathay. No point asking them to interview and having no-shows.

Just a quick question, I know no one here would know the answer for certain but I am curious to see what you guys think.

For those of us who are half way through the selection process, will our applications be put on hold until we have resubmitted our applications?

Define half way?

If you didn't get an invitation to re submit your application then you are in the "manila folder section", ie your stuff is now printed out and filed.
They don't need your details again. If you did get an email then you will have to re submit and wait with everyone else. Lots of people waiting for flight grading and some who have done flight grading waiting for course spots.

As Suntorytimo said things change quickly at CX. I was told in my stage 2 interview that they were taking 200 cadets in the next 12 months and 4 weeks later I get a congratulations email and a "sorry we aren't recruiting for 12 months" email at virtually the same time. Most people wait from between 6 months to 18 months for an interview.

Seriously though even if you got a stage 1 interview in 3 months time and a stage 2 three months after that and flight grading 3 months after that you would still not even be starting course for 12 months. That would be a record breaking run for a non HKID card holder. Factor in 6 months course and 6 months to check to line, you might be an FO in say, 7 years from now?

I don't think aviation in North America and Europe is going to stay dead for that long. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Read the previous posts. Cathay has a new database and thus needs you to reapply. Just bad timing on our parts.

It's interesting to see how you guys react to that email. Just so you know, there will be another change again, probably by the end of 2013 or the beginning of 2014, this time they ask you for application re-submission. Next time they're gonna ask you to PAY. What is it? Can't tell. You will soon find out. All i can say is NOTHING is FIXED in CATHAY.
