I am sorry to hear that, Johnson.

I have heard that quite a few of the successful applicants made it at their second or third attempts. Add oli, and hope to see you in the cockpit someday.

Hi all, my first post in PPRuNe, nice to meet you guys
I did my Apt test on 18th Oct, still no call for the 1st interview so I guess I screwed up the test
I thought I did ok in all the parts except the last task (flying through the squares). I got 3 5 5 and I guess this is why I got kicked out. Can anyone offer some tips on how I can score better in this task? In the last 2 trial I was able to fly through all the squares without urgent climb or descent but I still only got a 5.
re the FG, does anyone have any update info? I heard from my frd that candidates are graded in 3 lvls:
Under 10 hrs - beginner
10 - 20 hrs - Intermediate
20 hrs or above - Advance
Can anyone confirm my understanding?
Thanks in advance for any help

dream catcher

To get high score for that task you need to fly through as close to the absolute centre of the squares as possible with minimal movement of the stick, keeping the aircraft within the squares only is far from enough.

Despite the existence of the intermediate grading, I have never heard anyone doing that with between 10-20 hours experience.

I see people here are freaking out about the apt test. Guys, don't worry too much about it. If you are a gamer, you will probably be able to get pass it. The nature of the tests was to overload your cognitive function (I do psychology in uni myself) so you are supposed to feel stressed when doing the test. It cannot be too difficult to get pass it guys, don't worry too much, my advice is if you have time fuzzing about your apt test, you better use those time for the preparation of your up coming 1st interview!

20 odd pages should be fair enough , just make sure if you do not know anything, say the truth and do not make up anything! I have prepared for around 7,8 pages of questions plus answer, so 20 is a big number compare to mine ultimate advice is do not put yoourself into a dead end and always tell the truth

First interview

ALKC, do you mind telling us when you completed your AT and how long it took for them to contact you for the first interview? Some people seem to wait a week or so, while for others it's a few months.

Btw, good luck on the interview! Let us know how it goes.

ICAO english

hi guys yea i passed the interview got the call yesterday, will have my ICAO english test next tuesday at CX City. I got asked a lot of questions whole process lasted 40 mins, basic personal questions - introduce yourself, why choose UK for uni, done any flying?

and then drilled me with a lot of dragonair questions about company details - 5 new destinations we fly to this year, fleet, differences of SO in KA/CX, which one will u choose if both offers etc.

then differences between CPL and MPL, which one do u prefer?

I got a call one day after the interview and got invited to do ICAO eng next tuesday. Does anyone have any idea what the ICAO english test is like and how i can prepare for it? thanks a lot!

ALKC

ALKC1007

congrats on passing your interview!

to be honest, you haven't got much time and i would suggest that you probably should start preparing for the tech in as well if you haven't already started. they don't like people who are unprepared!

for the ICAO english test, it used to be based on 5 exercises.

1) paraphrasing - given some random words to rephrase
2) listening comprehension - listen to a tape then describe what happened in general
3) picture description - describe what you see, what you think is happening, what you think may happen
4) items selection for time capsule - choose items from the list provided, then give reasons for why the items were selected
5) video description - watch a video, describe what happened and how the actors feel, etc

extra questions will be asked within each exercise but i don't think you need to stress on any numbers or dates that were talked about on the tape/ video though.

these are based on the ICAO test over a year ago, i'm not sure how much it has changed. i think it's probably best if you go through the previous posts by KA & CX sections as most information about the selection process (including interview questions) can be found in the previous pages.

good luck!

chowhim

the CPL training (ADL FTA) is based on single pilot training. there will be initially a month of full time ground school before flip flopping between flying & ground school. Once the CPL ground theory is done, there will be full time flying until ATPL (ground theory only) and finally multicrew JTS training before going back to HK for A320/330 multicrew training.

the MPL training (HK & MEL OAA) is based on multicrew training and will complete up to ATPL of ground school in HK before going to MEL for flight training. i think they get up to about PPL standard before they start their multicrew training, then finish off with basically the same multicrew training in HK on the A320/330.

i think the main different is the single or multicrew training. it is thought that in the jets it is a multicrew environment, and therefore it should be better to train pilots in a multicrew environment earlier in the training. licence wise, CPL is entitled to fly under single pilot operations (unlike the MPL), but it's not likely that you'll do that (at least not for the local airlines in hk). once you get 1500 hrs, both MPL & CPL course would have their ATPL unfrozen and i think that's basically all you need so it shouldn't make much different. some say that MPL course is relatively new and that the training may not be so well developed, but there isn't really much prove yet.

hope this helps

Honestly, should people be asking what the test is about only when they are actually invited to it? And research means going through pages and digging for the answer yourself. Asking questions like these on a forum are just not it. The answers are right there. All you have to do is to look for it.

Aptitude test

Hi just got done with my aptitude test. Anyone here got a interview invite with a score of 6 in the last "box test"? I did pretty decent in all of the other tests missing one or 2 in most of them, but I feel like that box test weight a lot.

thanks for the quick reply. I scored 7,7,7 on the first test. Didn't get the score on the 3 guys holding sigh test, I might missed it. The grid test I think I missed one. The 3 task i got 9 hits with 4 misses. Last box flight score was 4,6,6. I think I am right on the fence hopefully they call.
