Dragonair (KA) recruitment?
Hi guys, I have been waiting for the next interview about three months after I did my initial test. But till I haven't got any response yet. Is there anyone with the same situation, or is there anyone have idea for what I can do now. Thanks

I just did my initial test in Melbourne, and the HR lady told me that if you passed, they will notify you within a month, if you fail, they won't send you notification.
I hope that only applies to people in Melbourne, so you might still have some chance.
Since you've been waiting for 3 months already, perhaps you can e-mail them and ask?

Latest rumour is that ALL the DEFO'S has failed or left before finishing the initial course. So there is a good reason why you should REALLY consider leaving any job for this KA-DEFO job..............Pretty bad to be out of two jobs and then try to explain this to a future employer.....

Where did you hear this rumour from?
Seems a bit far fetched that ALL the candidates who went through the rigorous screening process, and had more than 3000 Hrs on a multi engine jet... and.... type rated... and... current some how managed to fail a type rating / conversion course? Otherwise what is the point of the interview and sim check??
It just doesn't add up, unless there were only one or two people on the course, even then it would be unlikely.

I am not sure how many DEFO that has started the course, probably around 3-4. One had +10.000 hours and he is definitely gone.
KA is not like any other company when it comes to SOP's, Situational Awareness and common sense, so it is very likely that even experienced pilots cannot learn the KA-way of doing things - and they will be chopped.
Not sure about the other failures as it is difficult to get info out of the trainers, but there are a couple of persistent rumors on the flight deck about them failing.....

Jim, I would not be surprised if the rumor is true.
You can check some of the threads about the way KA is "training" their pilots - they are so good at it that about 50% of all command check ends with a failure - even after the pilot has been 6-8 years in the company.

Seeing that KA were looking for around 40 new DEFO's this seems to be pretty self-defeating. Where are they finding these guys from then?
And for that matter how are the interviews progressing? You rarely hear any info on the screening process, so I can only assume there are only a handful of people getting invites.
From what I can see, anyone who wants to be based in HKG has the following options:
HKA / HKE - Anyone following that thread? Because it is highly entertaining in that there is a hell of a lot of bitching and not a single thread of positive news ! - Even the CAD seems to coming down on them now.
CX - SO position only. (Got to think carefully about that one if you have 3000 Hrs plus your not single and in your early 20's.!)
AHK - Cargo only. (No problems with that, but their recruitment drive is a little on the slow side..and there is very little information about their t's and c's)
Corporates - Totally different business, but anyway - e.g. Metrojet - Apparently under new management, not entirely popular either. Jet Aviation - Looking for corporate experience... but you never know!

KA CPL aptitude test this thursday 9 Aug 15:15.
To ppruners, what was in the apt test? logic推理 and shape-matching tests? would it be a WOMBAT test? It's CPL not MPL, so it's not gonna be the oxford COMPASS test, m i right?

I had my aptitude test and now waiting KA to call back
will tell you what the test is about now, it was exactly like what another threads had talked about, let me quote it here.
KA Aptitude Test

For those who are interested, a friend of mine who did the Aptitude Test back in 2008 provided me with a gouge. The test should last about 1 hour, and only 1 candidate does the AT at any particular time. There are ten seperate items that need to be done, and are listed below.
1. Deviation Indicator
This is like a typical Flight Director on the PFD of a jet. In other words, there are two lines; one horizontal and one vertical. They move simultaneously in different directions (simulating wind), and your task is to keep them in a perfect cross. You use the joystick provided to do this. You have no trials and three graded attempts.
2. Three Figures
You put on a headset and listen to a voice. The voice will speak once and give you three parameters, namely:
Positive/Negative - meaning Holding/Not Holding
Right/Left - meaning Right Hand/Left Hand
Circle/Square - meaning Circle Shape/Square Shape
You will then be shown three figures on the screen, each with a man either standing upright and facing you/away from you, or standing upside-down and facing you/away from you. Then you must choose how many figures fulfill the requirements as given by the voice. For example, if the voice says "Positive, Right, Square", you will need to see how many diagrams have a man holding a square in his right hand. You will have 8 seconds to decide on your first three tries, then 7 seconds for the next three tries, then 6 seconds, 5 seconds and 4 seconds. You get a total of 15 graded attempts and 1 trial attempt.
3. Shapes and Tables
You will be given a 6x6 matrix. All cells in the top row have different colours, while all cells in the left-most column have 5 different shapes. Shapes of varying colours will appear randomly in the rest of the cells, for 5 seconds at one time. If the shape in a cell
matches the shape in the top row and the colour in the left-most column, you must click the cell before the shape disappears. The colours in the cells in the top row will change randomly as well. You get 2 graded attempts, each lasting 2 minutes.
4. Irregular Shapes
You will see an irregular shape on the bottom of the screen. On top of the irregular shape there are two boxes, each with a lot of lines inside. You must decide if the irregular shape appears in any of the boxes(either, both or none of them). You have 10 graded attempts and 1 trial attempt.
5. Number Series
The voice from the "Three Figures" exercise comes back to haunt you again. The voice will first read a three-digit number followed by a single-digit number. A series of numbers will then be read aloud, which are actually the single-digit number subtracted from the three-digit number. You must make sure the pattern is correct. For example, the first three-digit number is 499 and the single-digit number is 5. You must then listen to the clip and make sure the pattern is 499, 494, 489 etc. If the pattern goes wrong, you will have to press the button immediately. However, the pattern will change immediately afterwards. For example: 499, 494, 489, 485 (button pressed), 481, 477, 475 (button pressed), 473, 471, 469, etc.
The numbers will be read as "Four-Nine-Nine" as opposed to "Four Hundred and Ninety Nine". You must be quick at your calculations as the voice is quite fast. You get two assessed attempts and one trial.

it is it, i would say everyone would have no problem passing task 1-6, even 7 and 8 are not too difficult, the real challenge, as i reckon, is the 9th task. My tip is, dont panic if you have missed out too much target, stay calm and do your best. Bear in mind, if you think you did bad, you are not alone
the aim of the 9th task was to overload your cognitive function to see its limit, so you are supposed to feel stressed.

I've been watching the KA threads now for a while as a friend has just started. There seams to be a lot of negativity aimed at KA right now, can someone tell me what has changed, as I'd still perceive them as a good outfit. As for hours, I agree that experience is priceless but counting hours isn't the way either IMHO. I certainly agree that jet experience should be a must over single engine piston time. Lots of companies not just KA seam to prefer cadets these days and guys like me who have jet experience and am rated but don't yet make the 3000 hr mark can't get an interview!

I think the requirements for DEFO position are well described on the KA webpage, career. It's nice to hear rumors but do not invent strange stories

It is end of this month. I am expecting a lot of technical questions,I have been reading a lot of general ATPL staff. But it would be more helpful if I have a better picture of what to expect.

Glad to hear about your good news! I'm waiting for the ICAO test result and I expect it should be fine. So next stage will be medical check.
In the technical interview, you will be asked questions related to aviation. It begins from basic knowledge and continues to drill down until you can't answer. That's what I know from a friend. So at least you should have a solid understanding of the basic stuff.
Did you do the group exercise? Or it will be done on the same day as the technical interview? Do you know if the informal lunch is still there?
I learn that they are keep interviewing candidates passing the Ap Test for this DA16. So chances still there. Keep it up folks!
