In terms of expansion, it is clearly there. However, it is going to be slow I'd say. With China continue to strengthen in the air travel sector, future is clearly bright, no?

are you referring to cadet hiring or direct entry first officer?

thanks

by the way, for the cadet recruitment, are they same as Cathay Pacific like you have to pay back the training cost in terms of bond within settlement in couple years time?

Dragonair Cadetship 2011

Seems KA have opened up applications for next year's ab initio cadet pilot courses. Check out the Dragonair website for details. Apparently re-applicants will need to have waited 12 months since his/her previous application for a second application to be considered. I'm not quite sure if the 12 months starts from when you initially applied or from when you failed the selection process.

in that case, just apply for CX cadet mate, they're hiring people from an international level.

It is only for locals, I'm afraid. Even the Direct Entry positions are now only hiring people with a permanent HKID. Either the company won't need a large influx of new pilots in the near future, or they are really confident in getting all they need from within Hong Kong.

@sunny_liverpool,

I'd recommend you to apply the cadet program when you're nearly done (or have fully completed) with your degree as you might have to travel back and forth for assessments and interviews if you are short-listed. I'm fairly sure KA will continue to hire cadet pilots in the near future.

Hey guys, nice to meet you here. I spend like three hours to finish reading all the threads in this post and I have to say that all of them are very informative. Thanks for your sharing.

It has been another year. KA reopens its application for CPP recently. Anybody here will apply for it shortly?

Good luck to all of you and I believe someday we are all gonna be pilots!

With the Dragonair Cadet Program opening up for applications, I am thinking if I should apply now or maybe next year. Wondering if anyone have any suggestions given my situation.

I went to Cathay's Stage 2 in June of this year. Not making it to Stage 3, I was asked to reapply in 10 months (so I have until April and probably take 6 more months on top of that to be invited again).

From what I read, it seems like Dragonair's Cadet program application is open yearly for a few months and the processing of their applications is much faster.

So my question is if you think I should apply for Dragonair's program now, or should I apply for it next year if I don't make it to Cathay again in 2011.

I would like to fly in either airline, but I really prefer Cathay more. If I'm lucky enough to make it to Dragonair first, then I would miss my chance of flying with Cathay.

Also, since Dragonair flys shorter flights, that means I get to be at home in HK more than living in hotels right?

Thanks in advance!

ASL402,

I reckon you should apply for what ever that is open and available now, cos no body's gonna know what's gonna happen next year. Yes, no doubts you wanna flying with CX for what ever reason you've got behind your thinking, I dunno.....but if you're not gonna now, what are you gonna do in between now and your next application??

Hope it helps, good luck

I think so, from the looks of their schedule this year to 2011, it seems like the whole application process is only opened for a few months only. But I think it won't hurt if you email them and ask?

AsL402,

@0756 (GST +8) I did. Before the application reopened. perhaps I will do it again later.
And it is the only way I can do because my application isnt removed. I cant apply again with my same ID.

@1132 They replied with a pretty standard mail mentioning that shortlisted candidates will be contacted by either phone or email.
Does anyone know how does dragonair contact overseas shortlisted candidates? phone or email?

Thanks.

I've finally decided to apply for Dragonair and forget about CX (for now). But want to see if anyone can give me some advice given KA's recruitment schedule and my schedule.

I am deciding if i should submit my application for the first course with an application deadline of 30 Nov 2010, or should i submit my application for the second course with a deadline of Mar 2011.

Currently, i am working towards my PPL with about 20 hours. I will be able to get my PPL by late December 2010 if all goes well.

So, should i get my PPL first and wait for the second course. For this, i will be spending more time and money. My check ride will cost me US$900.

Or, should i apply with my 20 hours? If i get in, my PPL will not mean anything anyways.

Do you think the PPL will help me getting in much more than just 20 hours?

Thanks!

ASL402,

I believe getting a PPL is definitely an advantage in applying for CPP. More than half of the cadets that KA recruited last time, i.e. Group 12 (somebody correct me if I'm wrong), are PPL holders. Yet, I do think HR will consider other aspects so don't put your emphasis in considering whether or not to obtain a PPL. It makes a great difference between flying and not flying, but I don't think the difference is so significant between getting a GFPT and PPL. Other aspects can easily over-ride this qualification if you can show them to HR during the interview. If you think you are in most aspects ready for an interview, why not apply for it now? On the other hand, if you want more time for preparation, both technically and mentally, give yourself a break and apply for it later.

BTW, are you flying in US? Have you done your solo so far?

Chase3139,

thanks for the advice. Other than getting the PPL or not first, i am not sure if i am ready yet as well. Waiting for March will surely give me much more time to prep, so I'm considering that as well and very agree with you. Do you know how is the recruitment process compared to that of CX's? Is is harder/easier, or just about the same? I went up to Stage 2 with the CX CPP this year and got rejected so i am hoping the KA's CPP will not be as demanding since it is only open for HKID holders.

I actually did my first Solo yesterday, I did a few traffic patterns. All I can say is, i am loving flying more and more. I am doing my flight training in the US, how about you? are you applying for the program as well?

Hi guys,

I'm a Hong Kong citizen and I live in Vancouver, when I applied I was back to Hong Kong for vacation and I used my Hong Kong address as my primary address, but now I'm back in Vanoucer for work. I recieved an email regarding my initial testing today, and the question is would they offer me an airplane ticket back to Hong Kong for initial testing or would they be willing to extend the date for initial testing

THANK YOU
